Default Slipping clutch-2003 Mondeo TDCI

Any advice/ideas to help my son out on this one ?
He has a 2003 Ford Mondeo diesel TDCI 60k on the clock (if genuine !).
The clutch is beginning to slip and he has been told that the clutch on this Mondeo has a double flywheel and this almost always needs replacing if the clutch is worn. Best quote he has had is from a clutch specialist center and is £750....he then said "Dad..help!"
So is he being told the correct info and is the pricing about OK ?
I have no idea.

Cheers

It has a dual mass flywheel..

£750 is ok if they do actually fit one,its not uncommon for them to be worn out at that mileage..

There not a great job to do either, thats why the labor is quite high..

6 hours labour (whatever that costs in your local garage) and a conversion kit that removes the dual mass flywheel and reverts the clutch to a standard flywheel and normal clutch. I'm sure your local motor factors will be able to price a Valeo or Unipart replacement that does exactly this.
£250 labour plus £250 for parts plus VAT should cover it.

Thanks all, some helpful advice there.
I had read about converting the clutch to a 'standard' set-up but had read conflicting advice about this .
Don't know what to advise him for the best ?

The conversion is OK as long as you don't mind a less than smooth clutch engagement and a bit more diesel type vibration in the cabin.

The conversion is only for 5 speed gearboxes by the way...

The actually dual mass is between £200-£300+ depending on engine BHP and a clutch is £120+ give or take £20..

6 hrs is gonna be about £260 inc VAT at indy..

So can see where £750 comes from...

Mot sure how much the solid flywheel conversion is though..

Thanks again.
The conversion will be no use then as he has a 6 sp gearbox but he has decided that if a dual mass unit was fitted at point of manufacture then that is what he will replace with, flywheel and clutch.
The £750 was "all inc " and seems a good price.
Son is going to just check on pricing the parts separate and getting a fitting price only from a couple of local places just so he has an idea of which way to follow, all in or supply/fit.

Thanks

that makes me wonder if mine has been done then (bought it at 72k), and I've never known such a rough clutch, and still can't do smooth changes

i had a 2004 ST220 before my Impreza, the starter motor chewed the graphite teeth up on the flywheel, total cost for new starter motor, clutch and dual mass flywheel was approx £1400 including labour. Luckily it was done under warranty and that price was main dealer. Im sure an independent garage can do it cheaper
