My wife has one and its been brilliant .... They have had some bad press, but we love everything about it.
Before the X3 we had a Mercedes C220 Diesel Estate and the BMW is better on fuel, nicer to drive.
We have been looking to change it as its now a year old, but all my wife wants is another one, so we might as well keep this one.
Ive never been a BMW person, but the X3 has really opened my eyes.

cheers for the response.
i have read a few things about build quality but the one i have looked at seems fine, also the 2.0d had bad press but apparently if remapped they are like a different car.
i have been looking at the 2.5 6cyl petrol engine

Ive got no problems with the build and the engine is standard too.
Ive had quite a number of new cars over the years and this has been the best and the one we have kept the longest ...

The later model is the one to go for, updated bumpers look much better.
The better engine is the 3.0d, goes like stink, the 2.0d is lacking in power for the size really.
The 2.5 petrol is a great engine that you should have no trouble with.
On the 2.0d there seems to be an issue with the crank pulley vibration damper wearing causing a squeak on start up, can also cause the air con belt to come off. most have been changed under warranty by now though.
Rear coil springs are known to break the end part off in areas were road surfaces are poor, again, warranty issue.
Appart from that, they are a very good and well built.
Hope this helps.

cheers for all the replies
i know the 2.5 likes a drink but after having the scoob drinking v-power or tesco99 i should be no worse off driving the 2.5 x3 on standard unleaded.

We've had one since new and its been great. We had the same crank pulley / air con prob, which was sorted under warranty, and its in today having a rear wiper motor replacement, again under warranty.
Not sure I agree with the 2.0d underpowered comment though- never had any issues with ours. Actually, it feels quite lively. We had it dms'd last year, which has made it a bit quicker, and a lot more economical, but it was pretty good before.

Only a year old and its the car you've kept the longest. Wish (no pun intended )I had that kind of spending power...
