little advice...
depending on my current work situation, i may soon be forced to sell the scoob to raise funds to pay bills etc.
so id like to ask the scoobynet public if this was the case, what could i get for around £1000-1500 which ticks most these boxes
nippy
small car (can take 4 people if needs be)
within budget
not too old
not to expensive to run
fun factor
handling etc.
first thing that comes to mind is a 205gti. any other suggestions?

How about the older civic VTI??
I have never driven one, but I have driven a 205gti and to be honest I would not go down that route again..... do not get me wrong, I had a blast but they are starting to become tired.

I've just bought a mk3 golf gti for my daily commute which I'm quite impressed with - loses out on speed and handling to a 205gti but should be bomb proof and has just about enough poke to have some fun in

Andy, any of the above fit the criteria, tbh.. it all comes down to right car right price right time if your in need of selling your car/getting another car in a tight timeframe...for the golfs look on something like Ed38. ( but beware of paying the 'scene tax *or obscene tax*.. right royal pita that goes with these cars as they appear to tbe the in thing at present... the ibiza's etc ( same cars more curvy/better looking/not as boxy) can be found on places like cupra.net.
Civics ??
205's ??
good luck in the search fella

thanks hectic.
the thing is, if the scoob went on sale, i would want something to replace it that was fun, ie no 1.5 n/a diesels , hence why im looking at a reliable little sporty hatchback for around £1000.
just depends on whether i can bring myself to part with the scoob as im genuinel scared of how much im gonna lose on it sale wise.

Av. prices of mk2 Ibiza's anywhere between 1K upwards.. (both 8v 130 ish Bhp and 16v 150 bhp)
8's give much better low end torque, third gear in them is immense.. you can pull off from the lights in 3rd and run it right up to a good 80 + but if its all out racing you want then the 16's give it a little more right up the high end (but how often do you get the chance to drive at 110mph + ??)
Same with the Golfs...
**Hey.. if you really want to be different , how about a Skoda? same family as the golfs and Seats.. but would you go for the badge
or are you a snob

sorry to hear about your situation COB, how about a celica, or, if you can stand the chavness, a cavalier gsi, or even more chavtastic a nova gsi, or perhaps essexs' finest xr3i, or rs1600, or xr2, go oldschool and there is quite a bit to choose from.

Maybe if you can afford 2 cars, get a really cheap 1.5na diesel (like an ax)
BTW how much have you put into the scoob so far?

If you're scared, just hold onto the scoob, just drive sensibly, stop tuning for a while, try and find other things that you could give up.... How much would you realistically get for the scoob? 3000 odd quid?

im not gettting bored or tired of the scoob in any way. she still makes me smile everytime i drive her and its purely down to my £1300 a month deficit from those w4nkers at work who are testing my resolve. otherwise i would be considering this drastic action.

stop tuning... lol the cars standard as is its not being able to afford to run it, again its a case of trying to free up money in connection with my thread in n.s.r. regards my work situation. hence why im considering selling or around £3500 and keeping around £1000 for something to pootle around in thats not too droney and depressing, then storing the rest to pay bills as they come while im excluded from work.

Well, depends on who you are, but driving a 1000pound car and 3000pound car(my japtop doesnt have the pund sign), meh, i think you can hold on in there....
If it was maybe 20grand impreza, then i can see, but i dont know your situation, maybe i should read the other thread lol...
Well either way, good luck holding onto it, but if u really need to bite the bullet.....

We have a MY 2000 mazda 323GT.
Has the 1.8 engine out of the MX5.
costs around 1-1.5k
all the usual toys.
35mpg on a run 32 around town
nippy, handles very well, go cart like and the most precise steering lots of feel through it.
Has a sliding back seat to give more leg room or more boot space, will sit 4 adults in comfort due to this.
Also anonymous, not likely to get in nicked or damaged.
well built, only weak point are the oil packs, cost £170.00
it is around 135bhp, feels like it has more, very responsive, nice torque and and fun drive.
