They are great cars. Excellent driving position, gear change is lovely, handling is balanced and sharp.

I drove the 1800 and found the engine a bit wheezy and underpowered, but hardly surprising after stepping out of an impreza.

I couldn't fault it for what it is supposed to be

They are great. The missus had one for 2 years, and it was a great laugh. In many ways more 'fun' than the Scooby, and a lot less risk of losing your license

They are great fun cars - the people that tends to dish them have never driven them ! Very reliable and pretty cheap to run ! If feel need the extra power the jackson supercharger kit is well worth the money.

Brilliant cars but not much street cred in them so if you are worried about that then leave them alone. Go for a 1.8 mk 2-2.5 lots of mods available really light and as already mentioned razor sharp handling. Turbo or supercharge to 200 hp fairly easy

The 1.6 UK version from 1995 is a most underated model.

Advance the ignition by a large amount, use Super fuel and its a right little rocket at very cheap Insurance Premiums

strangely enough i actually owned a mx5. Ok regarding the more fun id take that back but for some reason the last of the mgfs were tidy little cars with a little more gadgetry. Sad thing is, it was a rover at the end of the day

Biggest difference between the MX5 and the MGF is that the Mazda handles beautifully

Great cars, had a Mk2 and a Mk1, both turbo charged and running over 200bhp though :d The power in the turbo charged example is great and bordering on silly, but you can have a real hoot even in a stock Mx5. Its just a shame about the hairdresser image, but not as prevelant as it used to be for reasons above - i.e most people respect them and regard them as a good car.

I have had two Mx-5s over the years and both were fantastic, even although they are a little under powered it is still easy to flick the back end out, although dont put it into a field like I did

They are really cheap to run and are so much fun. They are without a doubt better than an MGF, as the MX-5 is reliable.
