Default The old petrol in a diesel problem

My mum's just phoned, she's put petrol in her Seat Cordoba TDi (90bhp model, about 8 years old, IIRC) and driven it about 4 or 5 miles. Do you reckon she'll get away with having the tank drained, fuel filter changed and system flushed through? It's not one of the PD engines, it's definately old skool.

Just change the diesel filter also if its not too much in there just keep putting diesel in (but still change the filter)

She filled it up (about a gallon of diesel plus 45 litres of petrol )

Saw it said somewhere up there... Change the diesel filter.

Petrol into a diesel engine is not as damaging as diesel into a petrol engine. It 'should' be okay after draining tank and then filling up again but changing diesel filter

If no-one has recommended changing the diesel filter, then I would suggest doing that

Tell her if she does it again, you will take her car off her, and she will have to walk everywhere from now on

That is not strictly true anymore
Used to be the case but not so much now. With the Jump in power and the increasing drive to get immisions down fuel pressures have been increased.

Modern diesles run very, very high fuel pressures, the diesel itself helps lubricate the fuel injection pump. Petrol does not lube the pump and they tend to sieze, the pumps are oftern expensive - £ 500.00+ in most cases,

Most modern Diesels ie. those of 10 years old are the newer types as a rule of thumb.

With modern Diesels Really it depends on how far the car has been driven, if not far then drain the tank, change the filter reful with Diesel and away you go.

Don't bother changing the fuel filter just disconnect the fuel pipe after the fuel priming pump and pump out until empty, reconnect, then fill up with some diesel.

Job done, but against all advice, she decided that she would also change the fuel filter (my brother did the work as he lives about 6000 miles closer to her than I do )

How do you dispose of the fuel you pump out?

You are sure she changed the fuel filter?
