That should be very pleasent, and with enough power to drag it's lardy 2 tonne kerb weight along with it!

2 ton or not, this thing will go!

Lots of statements around (apparently rellaible sources) that Audi did not want to over emphasis the power outputs and hence have understated their claims.

Rumor has it it that it's actually closer to 610-620bhp

It will be a very quick car, for sure. Whether it will be "outstanding" remains to be seen.

Current A6 is not exactly renowned for its handling prowess. I doubt adding that much power and front end weight it going to see a huge improvement....

Looks good. Review is a bit stupid as it states the engine is a masterpiece because it has direct fuel injection, don't most cars?

No, its Diesel that inject straight into the cylinder, most petrols inject petrol into a stream of air before the cylinder.

I think that may be a confused rumour.

My understanding is that the 'standard' car will have the quoted figure, but then there will be a 'plus' model later (like there was with the old RS6) that will have the 600+.

Either way, its totally barmy! Where will it end? It can't just keep increasing!

You may well be right, however, £1k and a custom re-map and you could easy have 630-640bhp without any problem - sure many will!

It is a bit ridiculous really, remember the outcry over the 370 bhp Lotus Carlton, 370 bhp nowadays is midrange model power.

I suppose in ten years time, Audi will have a model that can actually induce pain if you accelerate too hard.

Rather than inducing boredom?

All rather ironic as I thought a few years ago Audi announced that they would no longer play the BHP game (or CV, or Newton Kiloton or whatever it is) and work for improvements elsewhere.

Looks like they've realised that their market still consists of men with small *******.

Yes current A6 is boring, but look what Audi did with the RS4 as opposed to the standard A4. They really have a car to worry the M5.

Here are the numbers from the last test Audi did on the RS6 Avant:

- stopping distance is 37.3m, so yes it is slightly better than the M5 and E63 wagons
- there is no fade after 86 laps at nordschleife !
- 100-0kph in 2.3sec
- 0-100kph in 3.83sec
- 0-100kph of 4.07sec in WET CONDITIONS
