I've had a go in one... in standard mode they're only aorund 190Bhp. With the supercharger they start to push mid 200's. Nice handling car, but not particularly quick in standard mode.

Does the std Exige have a 1.8 turbo ? Do other models have a supercharger instead ??

Had a go in standard one at Silverstone as a warm up to a 355 day and they are fine cars, also had a hot lap in the supercharged one and it was a blur as he flew around the corners, wow it handled way better than the 355.

The Lotus Exige (pronounced: ex-seej) is a two-door, two-seat sports car made by Lotus Cars. It is essentially a coupe version of the Lotus Elise, which is a roadster.

The original Exige (NA or naturally aspirated Exige) was launched in 2000 and had a 1.8 L Rover K Series engine. It produced 170 bhp in standard form and 190 bhp in the VHPD version. Compared to the Elise, it had wider wheel arches, a front splitter, a large rear spoiler and a fiberglass roof.

In 2004, the Series 2 Exige was introduced. It features a 1.8 L 16-valve DOHC Toyota/Yamaha engine that produces 189 bhp with the Toyota engine designation of 2ZZ-GE. Compared to the Series 2 Elise, it has a front splitter, fiberglass hardtop roof with roof scoop, rear engine cover, and rear spoiler. The sole purpose of these aerodynamic additions to the base Elise is to create more downforce (100lbs of downforce at 100mph in the Exige versus 13 lbs at 100mph in the Elise). [1]

In February 2005, Lotus announced a limited production run of 50 Exiges, using the Toyota engine with a supercharger, that increases the power output to 243 bhp. These vehicles were only available in yellow or black, representing the colors of Lotus Sport, and are badged 240R. They have a projected 0-60 mph (0-100 km/h) time of 3.9 seconds and 0-100 mph (0-160 km/h) of 9.9 seconds, with a top speed of 155 mph (249 km/h) at a cost of £44,000.00 (approximately $76,500.00 or €65,000.00).

I outdragged an Exige a couple years ago, without much issue.

Was running 376bhp at the time, but reading the above it was probably one of the 'tame' series ones and I didn't really know much about them at the time, except that they were an Elise with a roof.

Quite like the idea of the 240R as a replacement car though. I bet they are hard to find!

My brother is a panel beater and his company are lotus specialists - so many Elises and Exiges get totalled and put back on the road. He showed me around his body shop where he picked up the chasis on his own, even when the chasis is bent they still repair them! worrying as a lot of them are out there to buy and can be hard to spot.

I would avoid getting an S1 Elise - they are held together with self tappers! You can repair them with most things on sell in Halfords.

Elise build quality got much better from the S2 on

Obviously everyone is a little biases being scooby owners but don't miss the point of an exige.

They are awesome cars, fantastic pue handling and almost unstickable in the dry, handle amazingly well esp on a track and are so raw with no power assistance and light weight etc are great fun.

I previously had a series 1 exige (the real classic exige) which was fantastic car. Yes it wouldn't see which way my sti went but that wasn't the point. Great, great fun cars and I would definately buy one again, as series 1 elises are now only 10k I think these are great buys.

Most exiges, even the 220 S models would struggle to stay anywhere near a scooby of 350, prob 300+bhp as they run out of steam over 70ish.

Great cars though!

da-STI has it spot on. The Elise/Exige isn't about straight line speed. It's a drivers car and one of the most handling and rewarding cars in the world

I've driven a friends and my scoob feels like a bag of sh!te after!!!

yep, an exige REALLY handles where as a subaru as so much grip it doesn't need to handle as well, but still great fun and I will never tire of my scooby's grip and acceleration

they are awesome and more then quick enough for the road, youd need more then 300 bhp to keep up with a 220bhp S in a straight line.

Sorry guys but in anything other than a straight line a driver who knows what he is doing in an Exige will leave all but the most modified Scooby behind. They may not appear that quick on paper, but the speed they can carry through corners in the right hands is immense.

Trouble is they are not the easiest car to get the best out of and hence much of the time you would think they are slow. Witness the video above with the silver Elise, braking way too early, missing the apex, braking on the apex etc. In the right hands it would have been a lot lot quicker.

I used to have an S1 ELise and loved it, thought I was a star in it until my friend, who drives rallies to a fairly high standard shall we say, took the wheel at a trackday and wow, it was like a different car. I swore blind we were going to die, but he passed just about everything on the track. Amazing piece of kit in the right hands.

My mates got a S2 Exige with the standard Toyota 190bhp engine and a sports exhaust. I've got a 310bhp STI 5 and in a straight line could take him. I could also take him through the sorts of twisties you'd find in scotland (tight, bumpy, stones, gravel, crap on the road). However, the Exige is an infinitely better and more enjoyable car to drive. I can't stress that enough!!! Every time I've driven it I grin from ear to ear at the noise, the experience and the feel you get from it. It's a proper car whereas my Impreza is a jumped up shopping wagon and nothing like a drive in an Exige will make you realize that more.

I'm probably one of the biggest straight line monkeys going on Scoobynet. I love a drag and you all know it. Seriously though, I'd happily spend the rest of my days behind the wheel of an exige even though its about 12.5 seconds to 100mph (still plenty quick btw).

Agree with F1 fan, on track no scooby is every keeping up with a well driven Exige unless it's simply outpowering it in the straights and then losing time in the bends.

Many S1 Exiges are modified (there were only 500 made anyway) with either a Honda or Audi conversion and can be good for 350bhp (as my car is). Not much can touch it in a straight line or a corner in the right hands.
