Default Another Bloody 205...

This time it's mine.

After two years of general abuse my run around Cavalier Turbo finally cried help last month. As the tax was due to expire i decided to take it off the road to bring it back up to scratch properly. This left an opening for a daily hack so i went on the lookout for a 205 GTi (what i was originally looking for two years ago when i bought the Cav).

This car came up on eBay but the auction ended the evening before i was due offshore. This wouldn't have left me anytime to close out the transaction so i sat on my hands and watched it go for £970. As luck would have it upon my return home i had been emailed by the seller saying the deal had fallen through. Two days later i own a 1.9 205 GTi.

One of the Scoob.

I have to say the Pug is great fun to drive although i'm still trying to get used to non-PAS steering again. I'm chuffed to have found a 1.9 Phase 1.5 non-sunroof model so close to home although i can see the newly refurbished wheels being revisited soon, they're too dark IMO. I also got a new front bumper thrown in with the deal.

Looks extremely tidy Carl. I have never had the privilege of driving one of these, but have always wanted to

Your driveway is starting to look pretty good from a petrolheads point of view

The only real problem with the car is an exhaust blow around the manifold/downpipe area. Apparently the early manifolds are prone to cracking so i've bought a strengthened late spec one which i'll fit as soon as i've had a chance to go collect the bolts/gaskets.

That will just leave the duff oil temp gauge, refurbished wheels, rust spots, bit of spit 'n' polish and tracking to be done. Should be a cracking car once finsihed. However, in the meantime i'm going to drive it.

Lots.

Be careful with fitting the manifold, bits can be pretty brittle around that area

Unless it breaks off inside the head, then you have a problem

It turned out it was the original manifold that had cracked. The swap went well and the car now sounds 100 times healthier.
