I had a Punto GT a few years ago and loved it. Mine was R/R'd at 171bhp and once rolling; was very quick and that was on the stock turbo. With an uprated turbo and FMIC, 200bhp is achieveable, and many have done. They arent the most reliable cars in the world tho, and of the 8 months I owned it, about 6 weeks of that it was in the garage getting fixed!!
Very good FWD fun tho, would recommend.

I don't see why not. My friends Charade GTti which is less than 1 litre pushes out just shy of 183bhp on sensible boost. Punto engine is bigger so shouldn't be a problem. Fiat mechanicals are normally pretty good and engines are tough.
Oh it will fly alright in a straight line it would need to be some Subaru to keep up thats said don't try going round the corners in one and the brakes may need looking at !

ok.............BUT ive had 3 uno turbos, 2 mark twos and one mark 1 and one of them ran over 180bhp and when rolling was as quick if not quicker than my scoob. I love my scoob dont get me wrong BUT its bin a **** with faults and my old fiats didnt give me a scrap of mither. LUCKY maybe but still you cant judge a car on stereotypes

If its got 209 hp annd the torque to match it will blow passed your WRX with ease from anything but a standing start.

And whats all this "Once Rolling" crap, its either quicker from standstill or it isn't. Amusing how many numpties on here seem to move the goalposts to try and prove somthing is better than somthing else!

I've had 3 GT's. 200bhp ones are pretty much the norm now. I know a guy with a 350bhp that used to destroy Evo's.
I only modded my last. Had it RR's at 160bhp with 171lb/ft. It was fast and the claims of beating a Subaru when rolling are deffo true, until the turbo runs out of puff.
Its probably got a T25 to actually make 200bhp. Best to get a printout if possible, as there are a few Chips about for these that claim you can make 200bhp with the right turbo but few of them did.
If its a proven 200+ then go for it. 2.6k seems a bit steep, unless its a really late one, they were made up to a 2000/V reg, but those are pretty rare. If its red, then it sounds like a GT1 which was made up to about 96/7.

I once got blown away by a Punto Gt turbo a few years ago when i had my 280bhp Pulsar GtiR. I thought at the time it must have had an engine swap to something like a 20v turbo out the coupe.
It appeared a month or so later in Redline magazine for a Fiat R/R shoot out. Turns out it was running 215bhp on the std 1.4 lump - I was gutted..

I had a GT3 for a couple of years - never missed a beat and I was really suprised by how reliable it was I only did basic mods, decat, induction kit, suspension, brakes, wheels etc.... I found it to be a really good drive only had to change the rear trailing arms on it - common problem and they uprated the bushes on later models. I found the best way for a quick start in one was lots of rev's and a second gear start. I sold it to get the impreza and ended up letting it go for a bargain price as I had already bought the impreza. Still keep an eye on autotrader to see if a good one comes along, would love to get another one - 5th gear overboost was fun!

Nothing wrong with Fiats at all. Some good drivers cars in their history including the best hot hatch the Strada Abarth 130TC. Mechancially they are pretty good but as they are cheap tend to get neglected and do need a bit of TLC like any car.
Good luck with the Punto I'm sure you'll love it
