I had an 02 MCS with a sunroof and the plastic surround rattled and drove me crazy..!!
Have a little look on www.mini2.com for LOADS of info. It was a fun car handling wise, but I always felt the engine seemed asthmatic and a bit strangled. BMW were good when it came to warranty issues though. I think they got used to me in the end..!!

Happy researching...
Nige.

girlfiend had an 02 MCS. great car with 5 years free servicing. No problems with it, although rock hard suspension and short wheelbase was tough going on bumpy roads. great funon the twisties.

Hi
I have the Works Edition which I think (as a girl) is fantastic fun and well built. Cant comment on the sunroof as mine does not have one but have had the car now for 10 months and have had absolutely no problems whatsoever. If you are getting the car for your wife/girlfriend, I think its a good idea. Mine is on a 53 plate and has the extended servicing pack, which is fantastic as i have free servicing till 2008.

Things have obviously changed then, as they were absolutely abysmal when my bro had a standard Cooper from new a few years back (before the S was out). It broke 3 seats, 2 steering racks, 1 gearbox and about 10 other things in ~5k miles, dealers twice tried to send his Mrs out in it when it was downright dangerous (once when steering wasn't working correctly, once when their "repairs" had knackered the brakes), they couldn't fix anything and refused to allow it to be rejected without a lawyer getting invovled. BMW UK then told him "sort it out with the dealer, we don't want to know. If you don't like it, sue us". Dealer finally offered a "special deal upgrade" for one of the first Cooper S's for the bargain of list price for the new car with a completely ridiculous trade in value for the lemon. He ended up selling it privately for £4.5k more than they'd offered him.

Apart from the rather disappointing engine, it was a nice car on the rare occassions it was working properly.

My wife's Cooper S has the sunroof option - I'm sure it adds a bit more weight but unless she drives like Michele Mouton I'm sure it won't make a big difference to her. Not had any probs with hers other than the receiver box for the remote locking going ( common fault apparently ) but still worked with the key. Sorted out efficiently and painlessly by local dealer so no complaints there. The demo and my friend's own Cooper S had a very hard ride on the 17s so we had 16" wheels on ours and it's not too bad at all on bumpy roads. I ordered the LSD (£100 ) on hers and it does seem to turn in a bit better than my friends non-LSD version on 17s

So you've got a works edition Mini Cooper and a 6 series?? And your husband has just bought a new Monaro.

You're doing well for yourself!
