So what would you rather have as Sierra Cossie (inc Sapp) or an E30 M3?.
I think I would go for the M3,I suppose if you take both cars as being standard I would go for the M3.
My mate took me out in his one and those cars real do handle, I was so shocked just how good they were. I had been out in a 325i, but the M3 was in a different world!!!
Yes I suppose the Cossie is a little quicker in the 0-60 stakes, but it's not all about striaght line speed.
I don't think it would stick with an M3 through the bends, the M3 would leave it !!!

Now heres a car I really do rate

I've owned a few going back over the years and they are a lot of car for the money. You can pick up a nice one now for about £4-5k onwards.

The build quality on these little ol' German cars is excellent and the power (approx 220 for Evo 2) is great and very responsive.....The handling is just awesome in the dry

The looks alone are exceptional and unique and IMO better than the latter models. You can always tell when an E30 is coming down the road with those awesome wide arches

In comparison to a Cossy? and bearing in mind that I've owned a few of both.....there both totally different cars. The Cossy will whoop the M3 without a doubt and a modded Cossy will anihalate it. Handling wise the M3 has a better suspension set up and compensates for the power difference. They both need money throwing at them both continously, but the M3 is better mpg wise, but only just.

There both great cars in my opinion and it would be nice to have both instead of just one

I agree with nat,

M3's look, handle and sound amazing, but, IMO, nothing (car wise) beats the feeling of a modified rwd cossie accelerating hard.

Ive been in M3's, scoobies, gtir's, evos, rx7's, supras, 300+200sx's and a r33 skyline, and they all v.v.fast, but none has the same turbo kick of a cossie.

Its not because they are laggy, because mines got als, so theres NO lag, and it feels the same, its because most cars deliver their power fairly progressivley but a cossie, its like nothing, then BOOM, you are flying.........

Get them both! No, just buy a 3dr cossie, they ripped up the M3's in touring cars, and i rip up everything that tries in mine...

I love those cars on looks alone. Its the only BM I would buy simply cos I prefer cars to built for drivers rather that cosseted armchairs. Unfortunatly, every BM since has been in the latter catagory (IMO)
Those arches! they look the best on 17" Hockenhiem alloys, there is one near where I work every day and I go past it drooling.
The only thing that puts me off is the LHD only deal. Cossie it is then

Steve3dr rs , how can you say that the cossie ripped the M3 in touring cars !!!!!
for starters the were in different classes, and the M3 still beat it because of the better mpg as it was non turbo.
But all I will say is this, what is the most sucessful touring car EVER?????
The E30 M3 not a cossie an M3, with over 1500 race wins and it won multi touring car championships from it's first year till it's last 86-92, so as to what was the better touring car the M3 wins hands down, and you can't deny this cars track record.
The thing I like about M3's is you don't see many around, I see lots of cossies around, not so many 3drs but still more that I do M3's.
I suppose I see the M'3 as the thinking mans cossie, many people can't afford them, let alone run them!!!
I like both cars but I think the M3 has it IMO, just looks better.
Yeah you can get more power out of a cossie , but put some bends in there and weres the cossie then eh!
As I have seen on here it's not all about straight line speed that makes a car good to drive it's everything and i think the M3 is the better car, remember were taking standard cars here.
I think if you raced an Evo 3 against a RS 500 round a track in standard form the Evo would win, becauce of the better handling, I think it's got more power to, as I'm not sure how much a standard RS 500 put out about 220 bhp I think ???
I mean I've seen RS 500 and I pretty sure they were real, but how many of you have seen a real EVO 3???
As you may have guessed I have a soft spot for the M3 and think they are great cars, I'm just into cars and like most cars, but more so the performance ones

Bit odd asking other peoples opinions when your's is set in concrete.
However an M3 E30 is bloody brilliant. I drove an non-evo version and all I could say was Wow! You really feel like part of the car. The steering is just perfect. Every bit of road info is transfered to the driver so you know exactly what is going on, but that's not to say that the ride is harsh as it isn't.
LHD wasn't a problem but I couldn't get on with the bloody dog-leg box. I kept having to think what gear I was in before changing. I was told you get used to it though.
Great car!
Drove a 270bhp saph and while it was dam quick it just didn't feel as planted as the M3.
You could have the best of both worlds and stick a cossie engine in the M3. Saw one for sale a while ago.

Thumbs down

LOL - you said it handles better than the cossie after saying your mate took you out in one! How do you know it handles better if you havent drivin it? You sound like a BMW lover on here to say mine is better than yours even though you dont own(havent even driven)a E30 M3 LOL Also the BMW would have won because of better MPG - LOL what a clown! If you want a BMW go buy it but you dont have to come on here to claim its better than a Cossie, because we couldnt care less.

Mark,
I'm trying not to be set in Concrete , but I was just so impressed with this car, I agree with you about the box that would take some getting used too.
I am trying to make my mind up which to buy so this is the point of this thread to try and get you guys opinions.

Carlos , I have driven both cars and the handling in the M3 was much better the whole feel of the suspension set up was better that the cossie.
And as to the fuel mpg that you seem to find so funny, i did not make this up it is fact!!!!. Both cars raced together , but were in different classes, and the BMW used to win, I'm not saying all the time as The cossie had a far superior power to the M3, and should win but for a lower class car to be beating cars with about 150-200 bhp more you got to respect that.
And as I said it's the most sucessfull touring car ever not a cossie, the facts don't lie!
But the cossie is much quicker and the potential is so much more.
I would love a scooby ,the ones I would want are just outa my league.
Tough choice ahead I think .

Sideways has had loads of three door Cossies, Two Escort Cossies (big and small Turbo) M3 and various other top marque cars.

When asked what he prefers, he said for grin factor and fun it has got to be the Scooby. His car is currently a P reg Wagon with 109k, and he loves it. Like he said you can park it anywhere and no-one notices (well not entirely true) Could you park an Escort Cossie outside your house overnight, without worrying about it being stolen ? I can!!!!

His M3 was (at speed) unstable, and you couldn't be confident going around corner, even in the dry. I drove the M3 and thought it was horrible to drive. Crunched the gears about ten times.

He jumped into MY00, first corner fast, second corner sideways. Hence the name, within two minutes he said the M3 is for sale. Got to get one of these. Never thought Subarus were fast LOL

Just giving you his views. Cheers Phill C

PS There is a white four door saph that is supposed to be 270 BHP, and even my dog sick Scooby can pass it with ease.

Cool

Just spoke to sideways and I quote "not the M3 if you like driving it like you just stole it, they are posing cars. Cossies are good, but old technology now. Buy a Scooby"

He sold his M£3 for £20k (??) and bought his Wagon for £6.5k

His words not mine!!

babber- may be an essy cossie is more 'nickable', but that is cos they are more DESIRABLE. Its common sense, no-one nicks Ladas do they?

M3s 'unstable' and bad round corners in the dry? Can he drive? Never driven one but ALL the reviews i've read praise the M3s dry weather handling. The impreza is known for complimenting the average driver so maybe thats the case.

Unless your impreza is putting out some big ponies, the '270bhp' saf cosworth aint 270bhp. Mine is 270bhp and was quicker than a genuine 260bhp wrx around anglesey circuit, equal in the corners too although it was dry. A genuine 270bhp cossie will do a real 150mph+, most imprezas wont.

Old technology? Who cares..?Impreza turbos have been around since 1993 so they aint alot of them are far from new, plus with the Cosworth tuning scene being far more popular and advanced than the impreza tuning scene, cosworth tuners just keep coming up with new ideas as the engines are just SO tuneable .

Cheers Phill C

does that hurt ? (becoming part of the car )

may be he is a 'good driver'...who cares...horses for courses...may be he's only confident (and quick) in 4wd as opposed to RWD?

No i dont own a Cosworth !

I did, sold it after it was twoc'd, i'm now weighing up my options for around 7k. I *really* want an Essy Cos but decent ones start at 13-14k...so i'm considering a scoob as i've been there and done that with the sierra cosworths, still great fun cars though.

I think he might be talking about an E36 M3,not an E30 M3 surely ?
The E30 M3 are well know for there great handling.
The one after was much more soft and comfortable that the E30 one which is what I am talking about.
Especially if he sold it for 20k unless it was along time ago?
Ask him what one it was.
I haven't had the pleasure of a Scooby ride yet , any offers
But I just love the sound of that flat 4 sounds sooooooo good!

CC,

Well that's the trouble with Cossies that are chipped, usually always overstated in the BHP department.

Good at driving AWD not rear We grew up driving Cortinas, Capris and Escorts. I have a RS2000 MK2 that I'm rebuilding. More at home in a RWD with power. I got my Turbo in Jan 2001, and was very disappointed with the understeer. Changed the tyre and the Camber setting and boy can they handle

Do yourself a favour and get a Scooby mate you won't regret it. I never had a Jap car till January this year, Ford didn't have anything exciting, that I could buy new!!!

MHS,

He had an E36, not an E30 (aren't they LHD) sold it 4 months ago. There would be loads of people on this BBS that would be only to pleased to give you a ride.

I think that for those of you that haven't been in a Scooby, do it. You might even get a decent driver at the wheel, I think you'll be shocked. The newer ones are much better (i.e. four pots, Stiffer anti roll bars, etc)

One thing to point out though that wet or dry the Scooby is consistently quick. Can that be said for the M3 and the RWD Cossie? Even in the hands of a good driver. Yes the Impreza is a car that can help people that can't drive, but just think about what you could do with it once you've learnt the limits.

I seen a few spins / crashes in my time, people that have money to buy nice fast cars, but haven't got a clue how to drive them.

Get a Scoobysports downpipe, that enhances the engine noise and increases the mid range torque.

Cheers Phill C

PS On the way to RSoC at Castle Coombe this year, sideways over took a mate car not once, but twice. When we arrived the Escort Cossie owner was convinced the Scooby was chipped. It was standard apart from the Scoobysport BB.

I don't know how quick the Scooby would feel to be cos I often go in my mates 300 ZX with has had some pretty serious mods and is getting on for 500 bhpand has 343mm 6 pot AP racing brakes.
I went in a Carrera a while ago , and that didn't fell as quick as I thought it would.
But is not all about striaght line dragging, there's alot to be said about going around bends quick which is why I was draw to a E30 M3. But don't get me wrong his 300ZX handles great, but it's still quite a big car.

I've been in Mikes car too and I'd rather have the M3. The Reason is that I'd probably kill myself if I had a car like that or have a very large underwear bil
