Default Ford Engines and gearboxes

I know traditionally it's been possible to pretty much mate any Ford engine to any Ford gearbox but I had a thought. I wonder if a Ford V8 (5.0 or 4.6) would mate to an MTX75 and give a nice mid-engined, transverse installation...

I know the 4.6 engine is often mated to the T5 (same as Cossie)

Even if it did mate then you would need a very wide body and I would imagine the V8 torque would soon kill an MTX75.

Cheers

The MTX75 has been mated to a Cosworth YB before so in theory, it could be possible.

You wouldn't need a body wider than any 4 cylinder tranverse application and the MTX seems to cope with tuned Focus ST motors

It was only a thought, anyway

Bear in mind WHICH MTX75 your on about

The MTX75 equipped MK5 Escort XR3 struggled to cope with 130bhp I should know, I killed it enough times.

But then, why you'd want a front wheel drive V8 is beyond me

Theoretically possible, but you'd end up with a magnified version of the weight distribution problems peugeot had with the T16 - the engine being offset to one side of the car. This was a major development headache for Todt's engineers with an alloy blocked 4cyl motor, I dread to think of the problems an iron block V8 would cause
Also as Ali-B points out I can't imagine the 'box lasting for very long anyway, Ford Europe are hardly known for sufficiently engineering their transmissions, let alone over engineering them

The MTX75 in my mate's coogar V6 (revised version to the Escort's with much wider ratios too - boring ) has started making the familar rattling of idling gear whilst in neutral....."they all do that sir"
