Mk1 escort ...
Looking for another car to go with the scoob ... Used to own 2 MK 1 escorts and thinking of heading back down the same road. However its been 5 years since owning one ... anyone give me any advice on where to start looking, whats the best model/engine to get?
The car will be a daily run about aswell as being tracked occasionally
Any info gratefully recieved. but not if your going to tell me to buy a mk2

What you want is this car...

BUT in a mk 1 shell....... mind you, the daily driver bit might be a tad awkward... fun though!!

Hi,
Depends on budget really. If you are using it for daily commute then I'm assuming you don't want a mint one, but you would like something sporty?
I've owned a few and can recommend the mk1 Mexico. I think the 1.6 pushrod engine is hardier than the 2.0 OHC in the RS2000, but they stilll hold their value well. Probably pretty slow by today's standards but good RWD fun and individual. The 1.3 sport is very rare now and fetch high prices. RS1600 and Twin-Cams are rockin' horse plop and very rarely come up for sale.
If you are confident of what you are looking at then there is usually a good choice on e-bay. If not, you could have a word with the RS owners club as they can probably offer a car with more trustworthy history!!
Best to look at a few and get an idea of prices, do your homework
Really mint ones go for daft money. Get a tidy 'non-show winner' and It should do the job.
Hope this helps. Good Luck!

nice car
Blubs ... I think one of mine was a 1.3 sport couldn't tell you without looking through all the old pics other one i had as a rebuild jobby, had 1600 x flow engine in it, rebuilt the engine and then sold it on.
I would ideally like quite a decent looking one as opposed to a rustbucket (obviously) and i am also fully aware of the kind of price these go for
Will have a nosey on the RS owners club

Another car I'd love to own again someday...
I'm getting there, got my 4x4 history back up to date by buying a 4.0 Rangrover vogue at Christmas, but it's been sat on the drive as Project scoob needs to be finished first!
As mates we used to race round Cheltenham town circuit I know I know, He had a white one with a fiat miafiori twin cam in it and I had a red 1300GT. awsome fun. Until my mate got pulled after a long chase out of town and they slapped 32 pionts on his licence in one go... that was the end of that
I'll be content when I have in the garage...
A sporty runaround
Something stupid quick for sunny days road and track
a jacked up 4x4 with TSL boggers.
Undecided yet whether the runaround should be a Mk1 or a 106 Rallye

In the end I decided that this particular one wasnt for me (want something a bit quicker with different mods etc), but it does look a very nice motor if you are looking for a period/original looking car.

£4k will get you a very good 'fast road' Mk1. It wont be an RS, but expect most of the RS (or better) bits on it, like the one on Pistonheads - if it were cheaper, or had that bit more power (want 150bhp or so) then I'd be after it. As I said to the seller, I do think it's worth £4k-ish, but it's not exactly what I'm looking for and thus wouldnt offer him that much.
Big budget (ie what you see on Passion Ford) comes in with big suspension mods (5 linking, coilovers etc) and big power as the Sierra box and the escort standard axle start giving up over 180bhp or so depending on torque/tyres...
Cheers, Greg.
