I should imagine it is basically the same engine as was in the 106 GTI and I have heard one of them being thrashed to 7200 rpm redline and it didnt sound too bad!!
Yeah I bet the interior does have a few rattles but you cant expect the world for that kind of money!
Cheers for the reply.

Matt,
Don't listen to the poorly built comments - The build quality is surprisingly good on the C2.
I'm about to sell a red C2 GT which I've had for 2 years and 22,000 miles. The only problem has been a faulty horn, replaced under warranty.
Paint and build quality is good and to be honest the interior plastics are what you would expect of a £6K supermini. Not great, but have stood up well to use.
Less stonechips than most cars I've owned.
Nothing rattles and nothing has fallen off. It cleans up like new, and I have only ever hand washed it - its never been waxed.
The only common faults they all have is that the paint inside the upper half of the split tailgate gets worn where it shuts against the rubber stoppers on the lower half. Easily fixed with two small bits of gaffer tape - you only see it when the tailgate is open.
Great handling, stunning grip, very easy to drive around town as the steering assistance is speed sensitive and you quickly get used to the quirky dash.
Very firm suspension. The GT has Billstein dampers, not sure about the VTS.
Seats OK after 22,000 miles. For 16 valve 1.6s they are very torquey, but rev well.
if you are buying new, haggle for a large discount. Residuals are not the best..LOL...
