Thumbs up Cavalier Diplomat

Brothers mate has just got one off eBay for £500.

Sounds a good car, has the same 20XE engine as the SRi. With it being K reg its also the Cosscast . Same leather interior as the Turbo model too.

Just a shame about those ghastly alloys!!

16V wasn't introduced until 94/5.... very late "M" plates were the first to get it.

I had a 94 M CDX with the C20XE(?) engine; the Ecotec one. Didn't some Cavaliers have the earlier red-top 16v?

The GSI's ('89-'92) and the later SRI's, i.e 92 - 94 had redtop XE 16v engines.
redtop = C20XE (150 bhp); ecotec - X20XEV (136 bhp).

The diplomat would have come out of the factory with a C20NE 8v engine. I think it was only the CDX offered with the 16v ecotec or V6.

Forgot to add, only the very early redtop (XE) engines had coscast head, mainly Astra GTE 16v, though some were kept over for the cav turbo.
Also the leather in the diplomat is slightly different to the turbo: the seat bolsters offer less support as it was not a performance car like the turbo.

I'm surprised that the C20XE was rated at 150 BHP. When I worked out the BHP from the quoted kw on the handbook, it came out at 136. The X20XEV came out at 134, if I remember correctly.

The power of the 16v redtop (C20xe) was stated by vauxhall to be 150 bhp, and this figure is accepted as correct by most vauxhall owners. This is one of the reasons why they are so popular as conversions in novas and corsas.
