Safe boost limit on my astra turbo diesel (izusu)
Fitted a boost gauage and its running 0.9(ish)bar at 3500 revs.......
so with getting a electronic boost controler for my scooby, the good old dawes is going to find a new home on my astra................
so any ideas what i can push it to?????
i've heard of someone running 1.1 bar with no problems

I know some people used to play with wastegate actuators on the old Ford TD's and that gave them more power. Don't know how much boost, or net effect on longevitity - as this was generally done as a 5 minute mod on a hire car. No idea what you can get away with in an Astra, and no idea of whether you need to do mods to the fuelling to make it work - sorry!

well its now running 1.2 bar at 4000 revs, and it flys (well as much as an astra diesel can!) and not that much difference in econamy either!
as for fueling, i have discovered a pipe going from the manifold to the fuel pump, so i'm guessing it has a rising rate fueling system............ save me messing about!

Interesting, this -- turbodiesels are designed to run on an excess of air anyway, so in theory the extra boost will just be helping give a better burn to the fuel that's being injected ... although it may be getting more fuel if the sensors realise there's extra boost.
Does the Isuzu lump have an exhaust gas temp sensor? Might be worth checking a Haynes manual if you can find one. If it does have an EGT sensor, then that should give a safety margin as the ECU should reduce fuel / boost if the EGT gets too high.

if its the same set up as on the isuzu engine in the cavaliers there is a fuel mod you can do to the pump.have a search on cavweb for td tuning.standard boost should be 1 bar.the extra fuel and boost usually liberates about another 20hp.
