If your spending that kind of money then have what you want, not what might be worth a grand or two more. GT3 all the way for me.

996 C4S is the lowest depreciating 996 in the range. GT3 prices are curious - very variable and linked to trackday 'season'. The MkI GT3 appears to be the GT3 that holds its values the best.

My money would on a C4S.
I have thought about the same thing but I'm keeping it for the Cayman RS or DSG Cayman - which will hold its value much better

Direct Shift Gearbox - essentially a dual clutch gearbox - or tiptronic without being an automatic if that makes sense.... - true paddle shift !

Its in the VW/Audi range and Porsche have been working alongside them to introduce it into the Porsche range - the Cayman almost certainly being the first recipient.

I have my letter of intent on both - now an RS with DSG would be awesome wouldn't it

Workmate here just got a price on his 04 reg C4S as a trade in through OPC, £71k paid in march 04, £53.5k dealer bid yesterday Serves him right for sticking on so many options I suppose LOL
Still, I reckon the C4S is about to start losing money very quickly, it was a big seller, lots about, and the new ones hit the amrket next month. Shame they ditched the rear reflector strip though

If you're in it for the longterm I would expect the GT3 to retain better residuals. Traditionally the pure sports models (Club Sports, RS's etc) in the 911 range have faired better depretiation wise than the cooking models, though you have to factor in the fact that far more GT3's have been built than earlier track-oriented cars.

If short term depreciation is important to you, I think you're playing with fire with either car at the moment. On other boards some people are saying that their GT3's are not attracting a single bid from OPC's and as Cman says the 997 C4S will be released very soon.

I think the Mk1 GT3 was made in quite limited RHD numbers unlike the Mk2?
Also I'm not quite sure if the 997 GT3 will affect the Mk1 values as it will be a £40k car compared to a £80k car, so different punter all together.

All said though, who knows?
