01 to 02 will be the NA version with 360bhp - my boss used to have one and was horribly disappointed when I told him it wasnt the new 500bhp model - but on the other hand it was very very fast. It does have 530 Ibft torque - so ignore the bhp and see how it goes.

Why not go for the latest generation E55 AMG that has the 500hp supercharged lump in it I think + its been around for a bit so should be "affordable" (can't believe I just said that)

Been hankering over an M3 believe it or not
Test drove an 03 plate with SMG last night
Was pretty impressed
Espicially with the red leather
Going back tomorrow, though the guy phoned to tell me he has just got an M5 in also
Will keep you's posted

I recently sold my bi-turbo S600 (a smidge more torque 600lb/ft ). Quite the missile. ( Pictures: http://www.evoposters.net/carsa/S600-bi-turbo )
One thing to watch for.. depreciation. Boy do these puppies lose money like they're going out of fashion. My first S600 cost over £100K new, and 4yrs later was worth £20K. My 2nd S600 cost the previous owner £75K. When I bought it a year later from, that had nearly halved.
Don't buy from a main dealer, they'll charge you top top whack.
Personally, I'd go for the S600 over the S55, as they tend to have more toys, and are easier to sell. People tend to want luxury from a 2.5 tonne barge, and the S55 can be a bit firm. Don't expect more than 17mpg on average.
Apart from all that, they are literally the best car in the world. Stupefyingly fast, all the toys, super luxury, solid built etc. And they scare Ferrari owners
So long as it has FMBSH, you can put a comprehensive Signature warranty on it, which covers you to 100,000 miles, regardless of who you bought the car from.
I can't justify one at the moment, but if I needed a saloon, I'd buy another like a shot.
