Question £8000 car choice?

Hi all

Its time to draw my horns in and come the end of July the S2000 has to go

Im setting myself a limit of £8000 for my next car as I want to pocket the difference for a house deposit(well some of it)

So rules of the game:

Preferably sporty, pref do 30-40 mpg, no imprezas or expensive to run cars...........the rest is open

Im thinking clio 172 sport right now???

As you're liking the VTEC thing, what about an Integra Type R (DC2)??

There should be a few late model ones in that price range!

*** Excuse my poor memory, I've just realised you had one before!! ***

172? A mate has had one less than 3 months and it was towed into Renault again the other day for the third time Look nice but I wouldn't touch one with a barge pole!

If you buy a french hatchback you can enjoy good handling, cheap running but only when it runs which is the down side. The obvious one for me would be a Skoda Octavia vRS or if you are a badge snob, a Golf GTI either 1.8t or 130 TDI.

Octavia vRS

2002 SKODA OCTAVIA 1.8 VRS,
52 reg. 24000 miles, leather interior, e/w, e/h/mirrors, climate/computer, 6 CD, 17 alloys, stainless exhaust, K&N induction kit, FSH, Taxed Aug, VGC. £8,200 . o.n.o.. (07947) 350858

I'm thinking about something in a similar range before long... don't really want to spend much more than that. It needs to be a bit sensible.

Thinking maybe Octavia vRS at the mo. They seem like good value.

Or the facelift Cupra R?

Do you have another practical car? Shopping, trips to dump, etc?
