Question £3K motor for my little sister any ideas?

Hi Guys,

Trying to find a little hatch for my sister. She's got three grand to spend on a hatchback of some description. She also needs something a bit nippy but cheap to run (we may have to resort to the evil diesel. There I've said it. I'm sorry, please don't shout at me). We've looked at 206s, Polos and corsas, then I realised that any self respecting sister of a man deeply in love with his scooby should look no further than the mighty six stars of justice herself, and discovered the Subaru Justy.

Has anyone ever had a Justy, what are they like and what should she be looking for. Or, any ideas on what kind of car she ought to get if Justy's are crap, would be great...

I have had 4 justy's over the years & the only thing I have had to do is top up the oil.
These are good little motors but do check for rust on the rear arches and the front wings other than that no problems to my knowledge.

only ever had a justy as a courtesy car and it took a lot of **** without breaking or anything falling off i thought it was a great little car.

daewoo another option? can't say i've looked at them or prices, but i would imagine you'll get a fairly new one quite cheap.

trouble is, if she's got a 3k budget you might end up only being able to spend 1-1.5k on a car coz insurance will be a wrecker

good luck

How old is she? At least get her something a bit sporty like a Toyota MR2 mk2. £3k will get you a nice K/L reg and they are superb, cheap to run and ultra reliable. I'm buying another one soon for the mrs

106 rally if she fancies something a little hard edge, i had a gti and they are great cars.
Dihatsu Chirade GTI is a 3 cylinder 1 litre turbo but hits 60 in approx 7.5 secs so that is pretty nippy and should be cheap to run.

She's 24. £3K is just for the car, she has separate money for insurance. Cheers Dream Weaver, I'll get her to check out some MR2s.

You should, they are bloody great. 35-40mpg, ultra reliable, sexy to drive/look at, and RWD into the bargain.

I had one a few years back and the Mrs used to love taking it to work, so much so she wants to buy one now, a late 98/99 model, but the MK2 shape.

Micra ..... nothing comes close, nippy, 55mpg, go on for ever, simple, fun, roomy!

MX5? Makes sense as at £3k it will not lose any money whatsoever and runs forever!

I hear Rover 25's are being sold off new for £3k ... worth a look!!

you will not go far wrong with a Suzuki Swift gti, cheap as chips and very nippy with handling to match.
