Don't asume its good because its German. I had a golf mk4 gti turbo which is basically a Leon with a weight problem! Nothing but problems. Valve tappet, coil pack, wheel speed sensor, rear speaker, heated front seat element, all failed and had to be replaced under warrenty. I had to go back 6 times over 3 years for the wheel speed sensor problem. The dealers ended up getting new software from VW HQ to re-right the codes! When the warrenty ran out, it made no sense to keep it. I have had an sti 4 for over a year now. No problems at all, well, apart from the fuel bill!
Don't get me wrong, i'm not saying go for the xsara, just don't go for the seat badged golf if you are looking for reliability.

I have a Seat, i cant say enough good things about it (340bhp+ 300lbs ft+). Xsara Vs Leon theres no comp. Leon every day of the week. Throw a remap on it for £500 and get 220bhp 230-240lbs ft.

Why have a VTS? Its the same engine and gearbox as the 306 Gti but the handling and feel is poor compared to the pug. Why buy 2nd best?
I've driven both the cupra and the VTS, the cupra is more involving than the VTS, also more tunable.
The VTS is a poor flagship Xsara, not a drivers car IMO

You cant really compare the 2 as the price range is so different. You can pick up a 99 Xsara VTS for £2500-3000. Surely that makes them great VFM as a weekday runabout??

Are we talking about the normal 180bhp "Cupra" here, or the 210/225bhp "CupraR"?
The Xsara VTS is basically a 306 GTi-6 under the skin, same engine, same chassis, but lacking the extra gear and not quite as sharp on the handling...
