Anyone know the performance figures bhp, torque, etc. for one of these old bruisers?
Thinking of getting one.

144mph, 0-60 in 7.7, 25.4mpg - I just happen to have an old copy of CAR magazine here with the stats in the back
Be fun for a couple of hundred quid, but image-wise has to be a big no no!! Proper council-estate special/poor man thinks he looks rich image for these now!

Had an 87 735i SE and just got rid of a 89 730i. Not exiting to drive but very comfortable and luxurious. The 3.5 one is much quicker than the 3.0 and not that much thirstier. (around 14mpg round town. 17mpg for the3.0) Bloody computer tells you everything!

The one I'm looking at is an '89 model with 170k but has been owned by a BMW specialist with FSH.

FSH is a big help and the engines run forever if maintained well. Make sure the seats are working well as they're electric and if they give way where they pivot (mine did) it's an absolute pain to repair (and find a matching s/h one) Otherwise they're a pretty good old reliable, cheap barge.

Oh, and it'll probably be a switchable auto? If so, keep it in sport mode all the time. It holds the revs till redline before changing (but only on full throttle). You'll be very suprised at what you can leave from the lights!! (not Scoobs obviously)

Hi,
My dad has a 1990 735i which i drive fairly regularly. You can't beat the ride quality and level of comfort for the money, and its suprisingly quick off the line. However they are jammed with electrics which are very expensive if they go wrong. Cost £1000 to have climate control and facia electrics replaced. They also tend to degrade if not driven much, so check carefully
cheers

25.4mpg
Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha
Father in law had one which I drove quite a lot, I reckon late teens mpg is more accurate, you may be able to get 20+ on a long run at 56 mph, down hill, with a following wind.
The later model with the 2.8 engine will do late twenties though.
As for image, I live in a posh bit of Cheshire, they still look ok if they are original, i.e. no 19 inch alloys and chrome arches, still see a few round here so I suppose it depends where they are, I wouldnt bother if you live in Brixton or somewhere.
