The myth that is Volkswagen
Went in my first Golf last night, a 1.6 "Y" reg my son was looking at.
It drove OK, but where was the fantastic interior? Where were all the expensive soft plastics?
The interior was basic apart from an armrest between the front seats that got in the way when driving, in fact the plastics in use were harder and less expensive looking than in my classic Scoob
So..............are we all being taken by clever Volkswagen advertising? Along the lines of "If only all things in life were as reliable as a Volkswagen.........." which hardly makes it intio top ten these days?
Or am I totally off the mark?

It was probably a basic model and they are getting cheaper inside for some odd reason My Fiancee has a 10 year old VR6 and that is really nice inside with full leather etc but the real point about Volkswagons that impresses me is that she owned a 13 year old gti 16 valve for 7 months until it got written off and now a 1994 VR6 since late January and I doubt she has spent over a tenner at VW for parts for both of them put together Whenever she needs anything it's pence not pounds! Now that's impressive.
p.s I don't like mark 4 golfs anyway that much, they were too run of the mill apart from the sporty ones (R32 yum )

It even varies from model to model, I reckon the Passat has much better interior trim etc than Golfs / Boras.
I'm biased 'cos I've got a Passat, but the main reason for choosing was I liked the interior better than anything else I sat in, including Merc C-class, Audi, BMW etc.

I went from a MY98 Scoob to a MY99 Golf GT Tdi 110 and the interior was on a completely different level. No rattles or squeaks, and looked and felt lovely. Must be base model thing?

....then buy a Skoda.
Skoda have two cars in the top ten.

and if you have a VW - go to the SKODA delaler for labour - you still get the dealer stamp and you save a fortune
but, yeah - if you want a VW and like to save money, buy a Skoda (I almost went for the Octavia 1.8t 4x4 (tuneable to 220bhp) but the interior was a bit bare for me - I was after more toys and went for the Golf V6 4motion)
