I've put this on the Evo Mag Forum, but I'll put it on here too. I've been working on a spreadsheet with my own 1/4 mile (and 0-60) formulars using just very basic information to keep it simple.

There are other programs on the web, far far more complicated, that do this, but I wanted a go at designing a "simple" formular myself, which will soon be on a web site, with interesting figures.

I'm now using NEW FORMULAS, to allow for fwd big power and trying to get it down (MRKIV !), so hopefully they are closer to real life in most cases, including modified cars.

Here's a sample of info from my spreadsheet:
THE END FIGURES ARE THE PREDICTED 1/4 MILE TIMES

In theory, how fast should a car accelerate? Here you will find a calculated 0-60 and 1/4 mile time based on outright power, weight ratio, and its drivetrain, and nothing else! Figures are based on full maximum trash with no TLC, but fwd does allow for wheel spin:

Its not perfect, but its only using very basic info so I'm chuffed with the results i'm getting.

What's everyone's thoughts, and if you give me the required 3 bits of info i'll show you what it predicts on your car, if its not on the list??

I only require your:
1) BHP
2) Weight in KG
3) If its 4wd, Rwd or Fwd

Hi, try these: 975kg, 130bhp, rwd.

Can you show us your formula? I'd be interested to see how you're making your estimates.

Cletterridge 130 975 133 7.8 16.3

Sorry mate, but i'm keeping the formula secret, its taken me ages to design it using just such basic info. I'm trying to proove to people that I don't need torque figures, or anything else other than the BHP, weight, and drivetrain to get a close time.

Just out of interest, what do you get for:

300bhp 1260kgs RWD

And, what difference if power goes up to 380bhp?

Thanks

Yeh 3.6 is pretty close mate makes for better acceleration up to 100, but loses 5 or 6 mph at top end

12 odd seconds, thats not bad, the actlal bets figure (ive seen) is 13 seocnds, so your calculaitons are not a million miles out

Taking into acount wheel spin and wind and all that

Here you go:

mbc 365 1365 267 3.9 12.1
RichiW 360 1365 264 4.0 12.2
scoobydoo69 295 1385 213 4.7 13.0

MBC/RichiW - the difference is much closer, i've just set it to only one decimal point, so they are more or less the same.

Re, the new M3 (13.4) slower than the P1 (13.0) in the theory figures, yes, my figures are based on the drivetrain where 4wd will get off the line quicker, bhp per ton, and overall bhp coming into more further up the 1/4 mile. I have not allowed for tranmission losses becuase 4wd is better for 1/4 mile times. But i'm sure the M3 will be closing in hard with a higher terminal speed.

I've seen many different new M3 figures in the magazines, Evo Mag tested it at 13.7secs, but it all depends on how much they got out of the car, itself. I've tried to predict the best possible figures you'll ever get with no TLC and a perfect setup car.

I would be suprised if a rwd cossie can get those figures consistantly though, I know they suffer from getting the power down from what i've seen at santapod.

I think these times are slightly optimistic, because your forgeting the extra weight of fuel, so someone needs to add the extra weight of fuel onto the weight of the cars.

Here you go, some more figures:

Skiddus_markcus 380 1250 304 3.5 11.8
Chrisp 276 1240 223 4.5 12.9

Skid, i've actually put a lot of Pulsar figures into the spreadsheet as a comparison, see following:

276bhp filter, plugs, bv, exh 1bar 276 1250 221 4.6 12.9
290bhp as above Unichip/hks 1 bar 290 1250 232 4.4 12.7
300bhp " " " 1 bar + Front Mount 300 1250 240 4.3 12.6
320bhp 1.2 bar, Fmount 320 1250 256 4.0 12.3
350bhp 1.4bar " Forged Pistons, Hybrid 350 1250 280 3.8 12.0
370bhp 1.6bar " Forged Pistons, Hybrid etc 370 1250 296 3.6 11.8
400bhp 1.8/2.0 bar " + cams, injectors etc 400 1250 320 3.4 11.6
400bhp 1.8/2.0 bar as above + Fibreglass/stripped 400 1000 400 3.0 11.2
450bhp+ 2.0+ bar as above + Fibreglass/stripped 450 1000 450 2.8 11.0
500bhp and lightweight 500 1100 455 2.8 10.9

The mods listed, are just examples. If you've noticed, i've changed the weight on some to see what it does. I've also put Ivans car on the first list of samples.

Scoobydoo69 - I understand what your saying, but i'm sure some people run Santapod with very low fuel, and i'm trying to predict their possible "best time", by all means add some weight.

As I keep mentioning, they are also full thrash with no TLC, the chances are most people will be as much as half a second off when trying their best and being carefull/TLC. We don't all like doing 20+ runs and "slamming" the box into each gear to see what it can really do.

Right then, here you go for the most recent requests:

Jay, i've changed yours to 2 decimal points to show the differences in more detail, to get the correct weight is important though:

4wd:
Jay m A 250bhp 250 1250 200 5.00 13.35
Jay m A 280bhp 280 1250 224 4.52 12.84
Jay m A 300bhp 300 1250 240 4.27 12.57

Rwd:
Merc_Cosworth 187 1260 148 7.1 15.5
Merc_Cosworth 235 1120 210 5.3 13.7

Lordluthor 280 1250 224 5.0 13.3

And the fwd:
Chrispy200+ 231 1230 188 6.2 14.5

What do you think?
