PORSCHE 982S..........
.........I've always been a fan of these GT's.
Anybody got any experience with these motors?
Seen one local, a mint Y82 auto, burgundy, full leather and FPSH.
Skoosh.

Lovely cars, have driven an S2 and S4.
Manual is dogleg (which i much prefer to a standard shift pattern) and quite rare. Auto ones arent so involving but very competant still. Later models were gadgets galore and even had things like tyre pressure sensors/warning on the computer (on a 1989 car!). Theres a lot to go wrong....
I will say though, i've driven about 20 Porsches for a period of time from few days to few weeks each and the only two that ever let me down/broke down were both 928's

I've owned a 928S4. Bought it in 1990 when it was 18months old. It was a superb tool.
5 litre 32 valve v8 auto, so 320bhp. The earlier S2 and S were 4.5 litre 8 valve from memory.
The manual S4 (but known as a GT) was 330BHP.
The later, I think for only 1992-3, 928GTS was 5.4 litre and had wider flared rear wheel arches.
I found, apart from appalling aquaplaning, the S4 to be as quick in the wet as the dry.
Loved the driving position but took a while to get used to the flat steering wheel at first, very odd feeling indeed.
It cost an arm and a leg to service (circa £1000) on more than a few occassions and I changed rear tyres almost every 2 months from memory.
I don't begrudge a penny on that car in guards red with black leather and special order red piping.
I even kept it as a second car and managed 93,000 miles before I eventually parted with it.

Thanx for all your' replies and opinions guys.IIRC didn't an episode of Top Gear declare that the 928 was the most beautiful and most aerodynamic sports car ever made?
Incidentally, I've arranged an afternoon this saturday with the 928, viewed it briefly last night, it was still in the workshop, looked lovely though, even more retro than I remember inside, still plenty of brute presence on the outside.........ARMADILLO !!
It's a 1982 "S" model, 96k on clock, metallic burgundy, later alloys, half leather and check cloth, auto, 4 owners, last owner 11 years and....FPSH !!
Hope this car lives upto my expectations, although certainly not expecting the explosiveness of the scoob ( tastefully modded of course ) but I feel it's time for a change.
Mentioned it to a customer today and he said " if you like it, you can buy my 1984 S2 for about 3k, it's just sitting in the garage doing nowt and needs just a little cosmetic work" - later car with full leather, more toys, dark blue with full S4 GTS exterior, bigger spoiler, front valance etc etc.....
I'll let you know how I get on, only thing is, if I like it, I've got to advertise the scoob privately and watch the flood of chavs come rolling in for a thrash.
Oh well................
Skoosh.
ps: Fully comp insurance with Direct Line, parked outside on street is only 360 quid for porsche, scoob is currently 540......!!

Don't be blinded by sentiment because it'll bite and swallow your wallet if anything needs doing to it from standing for a while.
Then again, you only live once.

Cheers spoon, point taken although I did actually mean S4 exterior, GTS had wider rear end didn't it?
It will be a well thought out decision either way, my head will rule my heart on this although I know I'm going to like the car, either one I choose.
Skoosh the soon to be scoobless porsche owner?
ps: If anyone reads this that owns a 60 grand porsche here on scoobynet, please don't take the **** if I buy it, I may have little money but you've got to admit, I have good taste......LOL.

Careful...the 928 will cost a fortune to run...£000s. Typically on the older cars the computers (2 I believe) go and they are over a 1000 each. It's probable the most expensive Porsche to run. Your 3K car could cost you another 3K the first time you service it....!

Had an S4 manual for 12 months bought from an independent porsche garage in Leeds, nothing went wrong, did about 10k miles in it, one service (£250) good for 160 mph plus (chickened out at that point) and stunning power once you get them rolling. IMHO the only good looking car Porsche made, the rest all look ruf (ahem)
Oh, also took it on 2 trackdays and had a full set of slicks for it.....hilarious fun was briefly had, till the slicks melted
