Question Need to source a 3.0 V6 Peugeot engine!

Anyone know any breakers that might have the above 3l engine? As you might know from my other post the engine in my 406 blew up and it would cost more than the cars worth to rebuild. That leaves me with the option of finding a new engine or buying a new car and selling the parts from the other one before finally scrapping the shell

I've tried two local places but they didn't have one or any leads.

Have you looked for specialist breakers for them? Didn't the xantia have the same 3.0 V6 too?

Yes the xantia has at the very least a near identical engine so if I got one of those it would almost certainly drop straight in with little if any fooking around.

Company called pug performance in rotherham always had V6's when I was into pugs. They supply peugeot ecosse with all they need for engine transplants.

The last number I have is 01642 604592. I don't guarentee this number is still correct but a google would help.

BTW Peugeot ecosse are in Falkirk and are alleged speciallists in all forms of peugeot work. Worth a try.

Cheers guys I found one on ebay that starts at £800 with a reserve!!! What the heck is he hoping for!? I've found a few examples for around £2k that are identical to mines in terms of age, history, miles, etc so it's looking financially sensible to buy one of those and sell bits out of mines!

Over time I could maybe cobble together a grand selling bits of mines - 20 parts x £50 or 40 parts times £25 isn't unrealistic I feel! There are lots of perfect working parts: starter motor, headlights, spotlights, bodypanels, door cards, air con unit, leather interior with leccy seats, dashboard, cd autochanger, alloys, gearbox, altenator, etc, etc. Over time I might be able to reduce my total loss to about £1k buy buying a new one and ebaying bits from mines! I might be lucky enough to get two GL drivers outbidding each other for the cream leather, you never know

SB, have you considered taking it out (the engine) yourself and carefully taking it apart, i would imagine what has gone wrong will be fairly apparent.

Take loads of digital photos and get a workshop manual, borrow and engine lift and get on with it, suspect you have holed a piston or damaged the bore, I expect that there will be plenty of assistance and advice offered on here.

Does it still run ?

buy a compression tester for 20 quid and check each cylinder with it. When I did the Rover I had the new unit (400 quid) ready to go in so I pulled the old one apart which was a bit messy but dead easy and it was easy to spot the mullered big end bearing and with a little more effort I could have repaired it by spending 50 quid on some new bearings and stretch bolts for the head, saying that I could have repaired it without even taking the head off.

Yes I agree, worth stripping the engine to see if you can repair it cheaply. Its got to come out anyway. Unless you can drop the sump while it is in the car of course.

SB, i'm in the same boat as you with a blown Mi16 Pug engine - I'm currently clearing some space at my folks house then I'm borowing an engine lifter and removing it myself.

Never done it before, but cheaper than paying someone and nothing to lose!!

You might also want to try the SAAB 3.0, same engine as far as I'm aware.

I believe the later Laguna V6 shares the engine with the Xantia and the 406 also.

There is one in a breakers near Huntly. Not too handy for you location-wise but the guy is normally cheap-as-chips.

Sharpewood Spares, Kinnoir, Huntly.

Dont know the number Im afraid, but last few times I have been, he has had a 406 V6 lying there with the engine looking complete-ish.
Dunno if its a runner or not, but worth a call i suppose.

The V6 from the later Mk1 Laguna should be pretty much exactly the same. The early V6s have 170bhp and are different, its the later 194bhp model which looks to be the same.

The C5 V6 will be the later 210bhp model and as someone mentioned earlier may not be such a simple job as the wiring etc could be different.

I have decided that it make more financial sense to buy a new car similar to the one I had (i.e £2k) and then to put mines in my car port and break it for spares. I've seen a lot of bits from it selling well on ebay so I'm confident over time I'll make back about a grand or so before finally disposing of it meaning my total losses will be £800 or so. Cheers for the suggestions though
