Impressive with so few mods to the engine apart from the mapping and race fuel.
Presumably the injectors and turbo are generously sized
Is it FWD or AWD? If FWD, does 420 lbft go on the road nicely?

But fuel works much better than bolt on mods £ for £.
My 850 T5's is Fwd manual but most are autos and there are a few Awd's arround but for tuning manuals can handle the most.
Manual 450hp +
Auto up to 330hp
Awd up to 320 hp
As for traction, take a look http://hem.bredband.net/b285183/over...rloaded850.mpg

Compared with a 98 RON tune are you running:
1. more boost if so how much more
2. more timing, ditto
3. both
I seem to just blow headgaskets or crack pistons (no det though) when I tune for higher octane (methanol and octane booster).

The only week point the T5's have is the con rods, you have to reframe from running more than 15 psi below 3k rpms as they can bed due to the huge torque produced, above that theres no problem the engine just sucks it through.

You haven't fitted a calibrated boost gauge yet but if you did you would see that boost holds back to arround 13-14 psi below 3k then rises to 16-17 psi.

But are you advancing the timing and running higher boost for an optimum tune on race vs 98 RON or just one or the other? ie how many degrees advance and how much boost at 6000 RPM for race and for 98 RON for optimum maps on each do you find works best?

I had a T5 (94 L estate manual, no air con) and was told that 300 bhp was the most you could expect on the standard turbo as it wont flow enough air at high rpm.
I tried a T5R but the ride was very hard for a family car, the interior was beige leather with what I can only describe as coffin wood inserts, also I cant say it was any quicker than the T5, perhaps the R was heavier (or duff)
Now have a Fiat Coupe Turbo which is a similar setup, 5 cyl, 20 valve turbo, The Fiat is definitely quicker standard for standard but you have got to love the Volvo's, was looking on auto trader and you can get an early T5 with big miles for about 2 grand, they do seem to last well, ours was as new when we sold it 2 years ago with 75k on.
Might get another one yet !
