Why the grumpy face?
Well, I'm having difficulties getting an acceptable quote for my WRX03 with PPP. I'm 28, so LV remains out of reach for another couple of years. Other insurance companies list it as "11-25% increase in BHP" and "Non standard exhaust/manifold", which means my insurance for a WRX03 PPP is nearly TWO TIMES as much as for an unmodified WRX STi !!! ( >1400 compared to <800 )
I've recently priced other cars, after seeing a beautiful year 2000 BMW M5, with 45K on the clock for around £25K it got me thinking. Five litres, 400BHP, £1180 per year to insure.
What do you think? Am I mad to pay more to insure a WRX03 PPP than an M5?

Get the M5! I had one and it's easily the best car that I've owned. If it comes with FBMWSH and has extended warranty, you gotta have it! Mine was insured with Privilege and I was 29 at the time. I paid just over £950 with a tracker fitted.
Although M5 values are dropping you'll lose far less on the BMW than you would on the WRX. Plus, servicing the BMW is cheaper and intervals are approx. 12-15k miles apart! Mail me if you want more details on M5 ownership

I've got a M5 2001 Y and it is by far the best car I've every owned!! It is fantastic to drive, smooth, refined and has all the goodies you could ever want.....and if you stick it on a track it is quicker than most scoobies including P1's and a lot more fun.
Go on!!!

I'm re-reading the M5 buyers guide (Evo August 2003) and I already have the buyers guide PDFs from one of the M5 forums. Drooling over the pics of the leather interior
The WRX PPP is a fantastic car which I drive for pleasure, but I can't understand how I can insure a more expensive, more powerful, faster car for less money. I'd rather spend a few thousand more on a car instead of paying through the nose for insurance.

Hi Dom,
Things are good thanks mate! Hope everythings cool with you. Just saving up for a Ring trip or two this year and some UK track time! Need to get a spare set of alloys for my 330d as I have the tyres already. What rims are you getting for the M5?
Cheers

I thought it said WRX03 to MX5 - was going to berate you
M5 - go for it - get a good warranty just in case.
If I change cars - M5 is next on list to a 911 933 porker..

I got a set of OE rims which I've had powder coated in a very dark Antracite, I've put 255/30 - 18 front and 285/30 - 18 rear P Zero Rosso's which look and perform fantastic!!!
The RA's is about to have a Pace FMIC, Full Roll Cage, Cobra Seats and a nice remap ready for the 2004 track season..hopefully be looking at over 360bhp and less than 1200kg's!!
I've got a set of cross spokes from a 1995 7 series if they'll fit!!
I'm very interested in a trip to the ring, are you going on your own or with a company!

Insurance on scooby/evo's is ridiculous.
I went from a evo 7 to a porker 993 turbo - paying just over a grand insurance for porker, was paying 2 grand for the evo! the porker is twice the value and considerably quicker - seems just as nickable/crashable to me.

Liv/Vic have gotta be the best insurance around.
Called them up and they were over £500!!! Cheaper than Tesco who screwed me around. They didn't even mind where the car was parked at night or if it had a tracker! This was for the M5 BTW.
I also hear they are very quick in resolving claims too.
I would expect any insurance to be alot hotter with Scoobs/EVO's as they are in so much demand by theives these days, more so than the Cossie ever was as Japs are easily available on every corner.

Unfortunately my situation hasn't changed much in the last three days, I'm still under 30
I think I have managed to get a reasonable price for insurance, under £900 for the WRX PPP, that's more than £700 cheaper than my renewal quote !!
Still very tempted by the M5 though, I'll probably try to find one to look at tomorrow

I've had my M5 on the track a few times and believe me it is quicker than most Scooby's including STI's and P1's!! I do have a track prepared STI RA scooby which is quicker, but the M5 is a very fast car!!!
Have you driven a M5?
