Question WRX03 STI (265) vs. WRX03 TEK2 (275)

What would win in a drag race between a bog standard STI without the PPP and a WRX03 with a full decat and a mail order TEK2 map set for around 275bhp?

Id expect it would be very close, even with a power advantage, the wrx would look the favourite, but the shorter gearing of the STi would pull some of that advantage back. In all, the favourite would be the wrx (but then you have to look at the drivers!)

Have to agree with Tony The WRX may beat the STi 0-60 but the STi may beat the WRX 0-80 and both would be very close 0-100. The STi can't do 60 in 2nd but the WRX can, just. IIRC IMHO but the old chestnut in the wet and bends involved the STi's front LSD may just give it a slight edge on all accounts.

The sti has the better diffs/brakes/security/engine/interior/styling but I should imagine with the 10bhp and lighter wrx it would just have the edge performance wise. Not too difficult to mod an sti to blow a 275bhp wrx away though.

Whooa. The STI is more than 20kg heavier. Put it this way: a standard STI at 265bhp, 1470kg; a WRX PPP, 265bhp, 1385kg. BHP per tonne, I'll let you do the maths but my money is on the WRX PPP for outright speed and ability. Lets put it this way, in a traffic light sprint the WRX would mince a std STI. The same goes for drivability too, the STI is like a gas cooker, its either on or off. The WRX on the other hand is more your electric hob with a more even linear spread.

Who will stop quicker though once you have hit xxmph from a standing start?

I'd be worried in the WRX. That's why I got the STI.

I know that the offical subaru figure for 0-60 puts the WRX PPP at 4.8 seconds which is quicker than than the standard STi. Must be the weight of that huge tea tray!

. Probably whoever gets on the middle pedal first. Or whoever has the best tyres on at that point. I may be wrong, but I strongly suspect there will be very little in it for stopping distance on a one off stop. Multiple stops (like on the track), the STi would be a lot better.

IMHO, there isn't a massive amount of stright-line flat-out performance difference between a 260bhp scoob and a 300bhp scoob, certainly less than the difference between a lot of drivers. My 280 odd bhp 02 WRX didn't have a massive edge on a standard STi7, and didn't noticeably lose ground to an STi7 PPP. Get a Tek'd/decat etc STi, with 330+, that does have a noticeable advantage.

Sorry if I mislead anyone but the Sti is 75Kgs heavier than the WRX, thanks Chrisp

LOL

On Paper the 02WRXPPP is quicker Than 02STiPPP but I've not had many overtake me on the Track the combination of Firstly Brakes Wheels and front LSD Diff have made up for the 75Kgs

As Hades says 30 bhp doesnt make that much difference, but a good, smooth and skillfull driver will give more than 70Bhp's advantage IMHO

Put PPP, PHP,PF7's and Prodrive brake kit on a WRX and will Totally transform the WRX

At the end of the day The Scoob isn't a great "Drag" or "Track" car, there are far more capable cars about to do either. The Scoob does make a fairly quick shopping car though

Quoted figures for the WRXPPP look good but then so did those for the WR1. Anyone got any 'real world' figures?
