Chopped in the Scooby and bought an S2000
#1
As is my usual way, I get bored of cars easily(the Scooby lasted 1.5 years a record for me )
So Ive bought an S2000 to fill the space on my drive.
My initial verdict/comparisons............
Honda is put together MUCH better, the interior especially is fantastic.
In the wet, the Honda is much LESS scary than people go on about, however the Impreza has it well nailed and was a "no worries" experience as we all know.
The gear box on the Impreza was sweet, the S2000 is even sweeter.
The Impreza turned heads from looks and noise. The S2000 does, but to a lesser degree and with a different reaction.
The S2000 is cheaper to insure! blimey, didnt expect that one!
The scooby felt invincible to drive, the S2000 feels safe, but being lower down you feel more vunerable - fewer road users notice you.
The Impreza could be driven fast with your brains out, the S2000 requires much more concerntration. If I was driving home 200 miles late at night in the wet, Id be in the Impreza. If it was 200 miles mid summer afternoon Id take the S2000 every time.
Starter buttons rule
Im skint now, but at least Im spending less on fuel

Love the S2000, did 125 down the bypass today with the roof down.
I love convertibles in the winter - proper heater too - have you found the "convertible setting" on the heater yet? And the serious superstructure/bracing under your knees. Needs a clock, an ashtray, a ciggy lighter and a glass screen at the back. All rectified on later models I believe. I've had 3 people shouting "winker#" at me in the last few days, presumably for having the audacity to have the roof off on a nice sunny winter day . Top car. Enjoy!

mines a brand new 03 model, so have the glass screen, no clock though unless you count the one on the radio. Had some kid say nice car mate as I was sat in a traffic jam the other day my view is if it isnt raining, the roof comes off, unless Im driving in a dodgy area of town ...........loving it so far,and glad to be away from the Max Power image of my Impreza

Was looking at an S2000 a few months ago as I fancied a change... in the end I got my second EVO 7
S2000 seems a great car for all the reasons mentioned above. Can you tune these cars easily and what sort of results can you expect?

not a great car for tuning I dont think, unless you have a very deep wallet.
I also nearly went for an EVO 6/7/8 but decided it was time for a move away from 4 dr 4X4 turboisms.............maybe next time, always fancied an Evo

Yep know what you mean about a change...
Also looked at the Exige (but I have a 200 mile daily commute!!)
M5... still a bit pricey for the later shape
TVR Cerbera... reliability on older models...?? esp with the long commute
Reckon I'll wait for a good price on a Tamora or T350C

Interesting views - I'm considering one and will probably wait until the MY'04 is launched and get a used current model one as hopefully the prices will soften a little bit.
Can you chaps just go over the wet handling issues for me please - especially the early X reg models? I would use mine as a daily runner and there will be plenty of Fri night in the rain type journeys.
I've owned a few performance rwd cars (E36 328i, Caterham Supersport and currently run a 2.7 Boxster) so I'm rather hoping that my moderate skills should be able to hold things together. Are all these people who are binning theirs just people with "all the gear and no idea"??

It's an X-reg one I've been using this week. The handlings fine, I've not been booting it round tight corners, but it feels very secure.
I think the wayward handling thing comes from the vtec kicking in mid-corner, which would make it snap, but if you drive it like that then you deserve a spin, it's not the car at fault.

Should have bought a boxster
Cracking choice mate, nice one. You can drive in the knowledge that your car is not, in fact, a substitute for having a small ***** - unlike some
Just wait till you run it in

A mate of mine had an S2000.. his car was used for the deveopement work for MAgnex..
He still has the exhaust which was on the car for about 6 months.. i think..
I know he was trying to sell it.. so if anyone may be interested mail me at james.bushell@fiskeplc.com and i can see if he is still selling..

Well done ADP
You can really take the **** in the dry(once the tires are warmed up) and redline around most bends in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and fourth. I **** you not!!
It's a good car, that gets better.
Good luck, I'll see you on S2ki.com
