Question

Interesting programme - do you think they will ever produce a successful replacement for the 7?

Was very good, only caught the last half an hour or so.

I quite liked the design that the lad did, when they were arguing around the table about Elise's

They should concentrate on creating a basic race car for the road. the 7 was always simple, nice looking and functional. They should concentrate on those goals if they were going to build another. Whoever it would be, considering Reynard are gone now.

Cool

Was it just me, or did anyone else get the impression that the Reynard were actually trying to railroad Caterham into building a mid engined car.

IMO you will never come up with a truly great, iconic car (or any other project) by committee, It needs to be the vision of one person, with every body else working to that person's template. The only things committees ever successfully bring to production are diluted compromises.

BTW Even after 30 years of trying, the great Colin Chapman never better the concept of the 7, so I don't really think that bunch of marketting engineers would be able to manage it

Out of thosaunds of boring, annoying, unproductive TV programmes - I miss this. What the arguement about the Elise about the design? Or how they should compete with it? Was it that really intense/funny?

Been on at least 3 times now its part of the OU so it probably be on again in a few months.

Basically the programme followed the caterham boss to various meeting and launches to find a replacement for the 7. They explained why the 21 failed due to the Elise being launched at the same time. Reynard Motorsport were asked to design a new one but went under before the car was off the drawing board.

The project was closed and they decided to evolve the 7 a bit more. As the programme is a little old I guess things may have moved on now.

Was a good programme and worth watching because it was done over a number of years the pace was good as it shows how slow things move when going through design and techincal meetings.

The brief was to make another 7 but better rthe many competiotn was the elise so the challenge was to build an elise type car but a bit rawer track tool. e.g. would have carbon monocoque
