Be careful, there are actually 2 different cars being talked about here. The charade turbo, and the GTti. The turbo was available in the old 'square' shape, and the later curved shape, the GTti was only available in the curved shape. GTti has nice alloys, twin tailpipes and a different front airdam whereas the turbo looks pretty much like a standard CX. I guess the turbo doesn't have the 12 valves like the GTti, but the guys on Daihard will know more I'm sure.

A fully serviced and looked after GTti will be more reliable than a fully serviced and looked after Impreza. The engine package was a generation ahead of its time when first released. There wasn't many 100 bhp/litre production engines in 1987.
I owned one for 2 years. Utterly reliable. Downsides is poor handling (that can be addressed) and a truely awful interior. But these things are quick, manic and doesn't attract unwanted attention. Well worth a look if you can find a good one - which is rare these days.

I'll deffo be buying one of these as a runaround when my insurance runs out in Nov, wanted one now but my insurance co wanted an extra £350 (currently running 1.1 fiesta) - the reason? 'because it's as fast 0-30 as a Porsche 911' lmao

Deffo get one. I had one for two years, was ultra reliable and super quick Only probs i had was with rusty rear arches (not bad for a 10 year old car) and a seized rear caliper.....
Would deffo buy one again as a top alternative to a scoob

I've had a go in a GTti before. Pretty nippy little car, not as quick as a R5 GT Turbo but really good for a 1l car
If you can find a good one, buy it! (might be pretty hard cos I think there's only about 1000 in the UK and a fair few of them will have been written off)
