Bought a 205 tonight
A 92 J plate 1.6 Gti in Miami Blue. Cloth interior but in good nick.
No rust at all, paint work excellent, cambelt changed 14k miles ago, new battery, good tyres, 12 months MOT, no modifications, interior good (slight parting of the cloth on the drivers side seat) and 92,000 miles. Alloys could do with changing and one of the front spot fog lamps isn't there.
Got it for £750 so pretty pleased.
Richard.

lovely.
The 1.6s have much sweeter more subtle handling than the 1.9's too, with beautifully resolved, neutral cornering, proving that rock-hard shocks and springs are not necessarily the route to Nirvana.
The best car ever built imho.
edit to say the 1.6 engine is nicer too, smoother, better mannered, great cars.

I had both 1.6 + 1.9, the 1.9 was the better car, I'm a sucker for acceleration. The 1.6 was as you say more subtle and much more forgiving of bad driving practices- I practiced a lot!
Congrats on your new car they are brilliant.

Nice one.
Recently bought myself a 205 XS, and been slowly sorting it out over the last month.
Bought it off my mum for £200, just needed tidying and a few jobs. Has cost me £450 so far, with a few mods - PX filter etc.
Enjoying it for now, but may look at getting a 1.9 soon ish.

205 Gti's great cars. Soooo nimble and great fun. I Hillclimb and sprint mine. We have a whole raft of problems to sort out before we can get on the pace. Worryingly the compression is down to about 160PSI on all 4. Should be more like 200 ~ 220 PSI. Thats on a rebuilt engine
Going to get the cam timing sorted out and an ECU remap next week. Hopefully it will be much better.
Some video on my little site, under reports.

Great little cars - I owned an 'H' plate 1.6 GTi with the uprated 115 bhp engine. What a sweet little motor Didn't have PAS, so you got so much feed back through the steering wheel. Still the best handling FWD car I've driven.
Nice cheap track day motor. I reckon £750 would just about cover you for a set of tyres, brake pads and disks for a Scoob!

The lack of PAS really hit me the first time I tried to turn out onto the road lol - great once you're moving though.
Last car I had without PAS was a 1972 MGB GT.
Sony CD/MP3 being fitted on Friday and a new exhaust as well. Got a guy nearby that may sell me his mint 1.9 15" alloys with good tyres all round for just over £200. Not much more that getting the current ones coated again.

hello
2 are not bad,1 has a small bit of paint flake about 2inch long
the other is about the same.the other 3 have quite a bit of flake, hence the price. They have not been kerbed, just where the weather etc has got under the paint and it lifts off.If your after mint ones then i suppose you would have to have them refurbed.dont know how much this costs?
He really just wants his garage space back and so is open to offers.
He said the tyres are all road legal
