Audi RS6 . Should we fear it???
#1
Quicker than an M5,
0-60 in 4.6-4.9 secs,
0-125 in 17.8,
Limited to 155mph,
Approx 228 bhp/tonne
We have to admit that this is a pretty quick car, but will it trouble our Scoobys. Not in the handling department me thinks, but Im taking no risks remap currently in progress and isolated cold air induction planned for the weekend (actually more for my enjoyment than the RS6 arrival).
A bit about the new Audi beast .

Nahh, its the new Mercedes E55 AMG who is king of the hill.
469bhp@6100rpm;516lb ft@2650rpm
0-60mph 4.6secs
0-100mph 10.4 secs
0-150mph 24.4 secs
Standing qtr mile 13.0secs/114mph
Power to weight 256bhp per tonne
Top speed if unlimited will be in excess of 200mph, otherwise its reigned in at 155mph.

Be afraid, be very afraid
After my experiences with RS4's that have insisted sitting 2 foot from my rear bumper and I have been unable to get rid of them I don't want to meet an RS6 'thats up for it'. They are seriously powerful cars and my scoob is not a toy I am gonna let some Audi play with
Don't ever think your scoob is going to out accelerate one in a straight line, especially at motorway speeds, not unless its been seriously tarted up engine wise.
Just IMHO obviously

I rather fancy the E55 AMG That is going to be one hell of a car, as for the RS6, yes I'd have one of those as well for when its wet.
Cue the normal Scoobynet cry of:
"it'll be cr@p in the twisties"

Test drove one last week, massive acceleration upward of 60 mph. Very secure handling for a car weighing in at 1800+ kgs. Also very relaxed crusing. Better than the M5 I tested the previous week. Tested over roads I know well and I didn't mess about, quicker and much less skittish than my 22B. I'm tempted, but huge price.

In addition I would add that it seems most buyers of these cars, well at least the RS4's anyway, don't like to keep them the standard spec either, put the engine upgrade pack on these beasts and they are gonna have trouble finding anything that can give them a serious challenge.
If I had that sort of cash I would certainly buy one!

Well.. some scary responses from you guys - is it really that good? I will of course have to find out. My girlfriend works for Audi, so I'll have to try and get her to arrange a play down at their Milton Keynes test track before she leaves. If we can wangle it, I'll let you know the result

Why would 'we' be scared of it, i'm not scared of a ferrari, or porche or lambo, or even nobles. I have a car which is worth at best half of the value, possibly a quarter, of these cars.
I would like one, but I think the performance per pound of what I have will keep me happy. You may be envious but why would anyone be scared ?

Paul-s,
RS6 is £57K or £58,100 for Avant models.
Corpulent,
I don't think anyone is particularly scared. Of course there are much more or equally capable cars than Scooby out there and as you say that usually comes at a house price (Evos, Cossies etc excepted).
There have been multiple comparisons to M5's, M3's and the like with Scoobys, not to mention may other cars of differing classes to ours. I just thought it'd be another interesting comparision, especially when you consider a Scoobys giant killing capabilities.

Serious motor!?
I guess no one has read any of the reviews\articles in the motoring press. The RS6 is effected by the same Audi disease that effects the rest of it's performace range i.e. poor ride quality, handling and woolly\vague steering.
Did someone make a joke about it being left in the twisties? They would be right.
Still a very nice car though (better if you live in Germany and have access to smooth straight autobahns)

Went to buy one of these though only a few left unsold, they wanted all my money and the demo....well sir when you get it you can have all the time in the world to play with it.........
So I can't get a demo in a 60k car, but Porsche, Ferrari, Aston & Lambo are more than happy to oblige, perverse world will live in?

Latest Car mag rates it lower than M5 for lack of driver feedback, as stated above. F-Nutter, show 'em the criticisms, and say you're now getting an AMG Merc Wagon instead
