Question

So are we saying we don't rate P1's, Type R's, 22B's etc. with regard to 0 - 60 mph on paper these cars match and in the case of the Type R, surpass the RS4/6 times. I know of a Nottingham P1 that has recorded consecutive sub 4 second 0 - 60 times and still for less than the cost of an RS6.

Certain threads on this board suggest that Scooby owners have beaten the 13 sec 1/4 mile by a comfortable margin. If all this is true then how can people not think a Scooby of some form or another (and not particularly wildly modified) won't compete with the Audis, even i a straight line!

Do our cars really run out off puff to such an extent? Mine is a lowly MY95 WRX, but it pulls strongly through the gears to say 130 in 4th (uk spec box mated to blueprint Jap engine) and reasonably well in 5th. While I concede it doesn't have the grunt of a 420bhp twin turbo 4.2 litre RS6 or 2.7 tt RS4, there are much quicker Scoobs on the road than mine. Surely they must run the Germans close? Or, am I totally dissolusioned??

When you add up bhp/tonne, any Scoob with 280+ bhp happily squares up to the Audi. So do they just get the power down better or what?

At high speed actual power starts to matter more significantly than it does at lower speed where power to weight is more significant. Air resistance is related to frontal area rather than weight.

Based on my 0-100 of about 11 and 0-120 of about 16 seconds I think a standard RS6 would be similar, but I have spent probably £4000 on my engine bolt ons alone. Not tested my top speed (obviously you can only get to about 120 mph at Knockhill) but a car with similar mods except a different ECU, but running similar boost and timing achieved 167 mph.

Now if you tuned the RS6

Any standard Impreza would get blitzed by an RS6. Hell, an RS4 would do the trick, and I'm sure that the old RS2 would have little problem.

Sure, they're expensive, but look at and feel the quality! Very very nice. Give equal drivers an RS6 and any given Scoob, and the RS6 will leave it gently behind. Certainly the steering feel might be a little wooden, but you could drive around that. On anything totally straight, it'll leave a Scoob well behind.

Sorry, but Scooby would have its *** kicked. FullStop.

So an RS6 with 450bhp feels fast! Has anyone been in a 450bhp scoob??? Well ive been in a 420bhp Type R which clocks 60 in mid 3's and 100mph in around 10secs. The point is that both cars are VERY fast there is not a lot between them. The scoob is meant to be a rally car with good handling. The RS6 is an estate which used to be boring so the clever chaps at Audi put a big engine in the car to scare us and Porsche drivers.
Just my 2 pence worth.

Cheers

RS6 would crush a scooby in a straight line and on all but the tightest of our roads unles Saxo Boy was driving

FAO Wurzel:

The latest version 911 turbo would trounce an rs6 in every department. Quickest A - B car on the planet IMHO

Point of Order!

If your little car can be beaten by an RS Escort (Top Gear recently) then I think the Audi RS6 will utterly destoy you.

I have driven a 380hp RS4 and that can kill an EVO7 without trouble...

How do you guys figure that I think I'll take anything on the road?? I got blitzed by a Berlingo Van in the twisties when I had the VTS cause he was willing to take mental risks that I wasn't!

Audi RS6…. Should we fear it???
Not unless it is coming at you at a 100mph or so and there is nowhere to run - I would start to fear it then

Lovely car, great performance, just not for me

lets think a minute, if we spent £47000 on a scoob & mods wouldnt it be one hell of a motor, then may be just may be RS6 owner may fear it . anyway just some think to ponder over, i thinks

47k on a Scoob.

Yeah nice.

Above 60mph the Audi would be edging ahead. Above 100 it would be steaming ahead. No comparison.

Quality German engineering, superb build, wooly handling.

Against dodgy tinfoil build, not that quick, dodgy engineering and goodish handling......

Hmmm

Tough choice

Gez?

If a Scoob has 450hp it's 0-100 time won't be 10 secs, will be way quicker.

Mid 3 secs 0-60 and 10secs 0-100 - so say 6.5 secs 60-100. Not very quick.

RS6 is similar. E55 AMG is faster.

Thing is - these cars - the power they have, ie 450 and 480ish hp - that's real. Not RR pub talk ego inflatiing bull. Real power.

And they'll do it all day.

Still amazes me how many people think, driver for driver, that a Scoob is a match for these cars. Tight twisty roads are not the be all and all of cars.

I saw one of these things today, out on the road and looking like a seriously angry piece of machinery. It looked every bit like it did in the advert, a bull waiting to be tamed. Damn thing just ooooooozes...violence.

Talking about that advert, I reckon it's the best advert for any car this year (or last year for that matter). Any offers for a better one?

Taming an RS6 is well out of my wallet reach unfortunately but...if looks could kill, this one has them. Dunno how it handles apart from reading the mag reviews but I think if I had the dosh to put down for one, I wouldn't be disappointed - no matter what a.n.other reviewer would have to say. If you are laying out 60 grand for a car, it's not going to be crap.

Power to weight in a scoob needs to take into account driver.

Classic scoob (with aircon) with a 80kg driver and some fuel will weigh around 1400kg, rs6 about 1900kg.

444/1.9*1.4=327hp or there abouts. So you need a fair bit of modding on a uk car to keep up just on a peak power basis. The RS6 also has a super wide power band, meaning it gets, nearly all that 444hp thoughout the "through the gears" rev range. Scoob aint bad it has to be said.

Auto box means no lag between gears too, which will make up for the sluggish auto changes when comparing to a scoob (without ALS).

Also, what happens when Blokey St John in his RS6 decides to raise the boost from 0.9bar?

0.9bar!!!! That's the same as a standard scoob.

Imagine just raising it to 1.1 bar, a slight increase that can probably be taken by the RS6 easily, and maybe it will blow in 160,000 miles instead of 200,000!

Quick'n'dirty power calc:

444/1.9(absolute pressure)*2.1=490hp
444/1.9(absolute pressure)*2.3=537hp

Oh dear, so 1.3 bar, quite a lot really, but not in modified scoob terms, and will probably require a little turbo work for the RS6, maybe not. German tuning companies will be sorting this sort of stuff out right now. Trying to take on a 500+hp RS6 is really going to ruin your day!

However, £56k (or whatever for RS6) buys a **** load of work and mods for a scoob.

I bet the rs6 doors don't rattle when you shut them with the windows down!

And for anyone that thinks that the scoob will have any big car through the twisties, I suggest you look at the Handling course times for Elvington, and better still watch the video. Ronnies lardy skyline is a great example of brute force over finesse!

The $hit talked on this thread is embarrasing.

I was in one last week so don't flame me. It will beat any scooby in any situation. Awsome.

70-100 why is he gaining on me
100+ time to go home and eat some humble pie.
Next time I see one I'll pretend I haven't noticed it.

Apparently there is a tuned RS6 in Germany at the moment (development car for ABT I think) that is producing around 580 BHP.......Ohhh and they've sorted the suspension.

Its a £60k car, of course you'll beat it cause the driver will be on the blower to his stockbroker while driving home to his posh wife in his posh house to sit on his posh sofa and drink fine wine.

you will be home sooner to sit on your drive while applying a prodrive sticker to your intercooler and wax your dump valve.

he hasnt bought his car to beat you anymore than you bought yours to beat ***** in novas...errrrr, thats not why you bought yours was it?

Thumbs down

The one or two RS6's I've seen are usually driven by old blokes - at least 25 years older than me. Seeing one of these has the same *effect* as seeing a Nova GTE to be honest - just something that doesn't do anything to me.

It's the Skylines that scare me for real.

All being said peps. I think that we are all missing the point. We drive Scoobs because we enjoy them. It not about being at the traffic lights to see who gets off quicker. We are all in our little scooby world and no one can take that away from us. So who cares about whether an RS6 or and RS4 can eat us? What really matters is that there might be Mr. Plob waiting behind that tree or flyover waiting to pick us if all goes pear shaped few few hundred yards down the road.

These Audis may be built better and has astronomical bhp's, but think of this, put Petta behind a reg. Scoob against a regular RS6 driver on any given street, who will win? As for the straights, if only we had an autobahn

I've been a passenger in an RS6 and NO SCOOBY on earth could come close. The car is a monster - the acceleration incredible and it's faster than my cousin's EVO 7 FQ300. I was blown away by the RS6 - it has incredible toys, build quality but is also amazingly quick. My choice would be Merc SL55 AMG - best car in the world.
