Just got back from driving a top spec mini, overall a very good car.
Power didn't seem tobe that good, but handling was good. A few squeaks in the dash which I wasn't expecting, cruise control was very good, 6 speed box had a very close gate.
Nice little motor but more power needed

I thought about getting one, but got a CTR to replace the 306. I had 2 firefights with the S (manchine gun slot in hood). Both times the Mini pilot was left an unhappy chap!
I had more trouble with Seat Turbos than the S. Mike is right it needs more power, a lot more. I belive that new seats and steering wheel designs are on the way.
Mega.

Fantastic car but plagued with poor build quality and reliability issues, hold off for another 12 months unless you like visiting you local dealership.

Hi All,
First posting on this site, though I've been browsing for some time now and love the site.
I was on the list for 10 months before getting my Cooper S, and hence got one of the first in the country (June).
Mine cost £16,400 after I added the extras like 1/2 leather, aircon, DSC, Xenons and 17" wheels.
There have been a few niggling faults with squeeky seats, but I LOVE driving the car so much that I can forgive these faults (fixed by dealer now anyway), it's like driving a go-kart to work everyday.
I know the acceleration isn't in the same league as a scooby, but my mate has a Civic Type-R which he bought at the same time as my car, we have had a few races and he gets past me slowly, the only prob with the Type-R is the lack of any traction control, meaning in the wet, he has to wait an age to get the power down.
Anyway, after 4 months and 6500 miles, I'm still loving the car, but am planning the 200+BHP John Cooper Works upgrade next year when it comes out which should bring the 0-60 down to about 6 seconds.
Otherwise, I could be tempted by one of these cheaper Scoobies!
Later guys
Andy

Hi Shunty, Yeah I love the MINI2 website, no-one seems to flame other car drivers and everyone has constructive things to say, we have almost 5500 members now.
Maybe I'll see you around, I work in Featherstone at LINPAC Plastics.

Well not sure how quick these things are? came across one on a lurvley back road near the mini dealership, the salesman was out on demo and raced up behind in my a3 tdi 130, then i proceeded to leave him behind with ease once the traffic cleared.
maybe the salesman was a wuss! bet the guy in the car ended up at the audi dealership after that enquiring about tdi quattro's.

Claimed 0-60 by BMW is 6.9, 0-62 in 7.4, though many MINI2 members are only getting around 7.1-7.2, running 163BHP, with 155 ft lb of torque, revs are mainly useable from 2.5 > 5k rpm.
Andy
P.S. I've raced a Golf TDI 130 up an M-way sliproad before and he was losing ground slowly up to about 60 then he either gave up or missed his gear cos he dissappeared. Dunno how the a3 compares (lighter?)
My colleague has a Corrado VR6 that I've caned up the same sliproad, don't think it's running well though as my mate in the CTR caned him with ease up the same sliproad.

Had an S when they first came out. Got shot after 6 weeks. Sorry but it was dull on the speed stakes. It struggled in the wet and sometimes dry with 163bhp. 200bhp and S will not mix in the wet.
Still has the award as the most over rated car Ive bought. Great for the wife though. Not alone in my Cooper S sentiments either.
Got a Cupra R for the moment and although the journalists dont think so I find it corners as well, deals with the wet better and has the pace the Cooper S misses.
