Question

In January I'm taking the company wheels / TDi option. Just curious -- what average mpg figures are you BMW 320d / Golf / Bora / Passat / Mondeo TDCi owners getting?

I'm most likely getting a Mondeo TDCi or Passat PD130, with the Volvo S60 D5 as an outside chance.

It would be nice to know just how much I'm going to save on fuel

Girlfriend's TDCi Mondeo has averaged bang on 40mpg over the last 10,000m. As with any diesel though (from experience) if you back off the throttle a bit, use the torque and keep motorway speeds sane (difficult when they're so long geared), you end up quite easily with 50mpg.

The worst I ever got out of a diesel was 27.6mpg in my A4 V6 Quattro TDi (chipped) at a track day ! This is not far short of my best in an Impreza !

Cool

My 330d Sport is apparently making 37.1 mpg average according to the computer. I think it's actually a little more in reality, especially on the motorway. I usually get 550 miles from nearly 60 litres, which is about 42mpg.

A4 1.9Tdi

motorway @ 70-75 mph gives over 50mpg

80-85 gives 45mph

Pulling a trailer at 70-75 gives just ~37mpg

never really paid attention around town i'm afraid - i only play with the trip computer thing when i'm motorway'ing...

I'm getting an average of 48.5 mpg in my Volvo S80 D5, according to the trip computer. On motorway journeys with the cruise control set to 70 mph, I get 52 mpg.

mondeo tdci on a motorway run with climate control on and going at fairly slow speeds (80 - 85) = easy 52mpg on the computer.

pulling 9m trailer along 60 mph a-roads gave 47mpg! didn't believe it myself, but the gauge barely moved.

edited because when it comes to using smilies i'm a half wit

Golf Tdi PD115 model. In 42500 miles (1yr for me!) it has averaged 50-52 mpg and yes I did re-set it every tankful. 520 or so miles per tank.

Mates 150 TDI golf averages easily over 50mpg, with a DMS tuning box thingy. The VW engine is a very good engine. Even an old Passat tdi i had ( 94 90bhp TDI ) on a run could get over 60mpg.

Wink

I've been running a 320d touring for 4 months and 12K miles, mostly motorway driving I'm getting around 47-48mpg consistently (not what the computer says). With £130 tax pa as well to boot.
My wife has a Golf 130Tdi and does 7 miles a day on average, we have filled it 3 times in 3.5 months!

Interesting to hear of the MPG's. I used to have a pool VW Sharan TDI Auto which averaged 27mpg. I don't know whether it was because of the shape, auto box or whatever, just completely unimpressive combination, our 306 1.8 used less petrol, and that was always driven like it was stolen
