JonW: Although officially an air cooled site, no one worries about that, Volkzone has water cooled cars for sale, and it has the most knowledgeable crew you’ll find. Even if you don’t find a car you’ll find as much help as you need. This is the daddy of VW sites.

Ive been looking for a nice Golf Mk2 16v (late model with big bumpers) for reasonable money but keep finding knackered cars locally, anyone got any ideas on wheres best to look and what I should be looking for when looking over a potential purchase? Is there a web site that lists all this and tells me what performance adds on I should be looking at?

Cheers, Jon.

Get an 8 Valve, Ive had both and prefer the 8 valve, especially with a bit of head work and an exhaust.

the oneoff colour that is the same as mine, porsche maritime blue, see mk1 golf trackday beast thread on here
I ve had three 16v`s and i can tell you, they are a much better car than the 8v. even with work done to the 8v, you just dont get the same power/sound. Cracking car, but easy to steal, trust me, my baby was taken from me.
sob
going now.

Planky - YHM

Mark - Ive had both and prefer the 16v - each to their own. :-)

Doctor Clifford - Cheers mate, but that where ive been looking and they all seem dire or horrendous money...

Dirtboy - drop me a mail as per my profile as I cant mail you (no email profile). I'm interested in anything thst matches my spec right now.

Gaz - I know Ive had both too but that was years ago, gues im going back to ma yoof.... ;-p Cheers for tip, will watch out for security - had one of mine broken into (back in 1993) - the old way - now fixed by armoured door plates.

Jon.

Planky - your mail keeps being bounced... Can you get your mate to email me spec and pix of his car? It may be worth travelling for the right car I guess... cheers, Jon.

http://www.volkswizard.co.uk has them sometimes although they are on the expensive side but they are the good ones apparently. Also try http://clubgti.sequence.co.uk/classifieds.asp and http://www.findit.co.uk/cars/volkswagen/golf.htm

Planky, cheers for seeds of doubt... ;-p

Nah i'm not worried this is an honest car and very close to me, Ive seen enough to know its not a clunker and will do me fine, I really didnt pay a lot so i'm very happy with my new toy.

Just need to fix the crappy gearshift and a good service and tune up and i'm in business... just seen that there is a track day at Coombe on Sunday... ohhhh....

WoIfie - might be worth putting a sign on your car at Coombe on Sunday as you should have lots of like minded folk there... entry is free for spectators IIRC....
