Any Pen experts?

This may be a long shot but does anyone know much about pens?
I want to buy a decent one for my G/F for her birthday that will last for a long time.
I don't know the difference between a rollerball, ball point etc. and I don't know what makes are good. I have looked at all the typical types Mont Blanc,Cross but I was looking for some others to compare to anyone got any suggestions?(not a 20p biro please!!)
I don't really want to spend more than about £100 as she will probably loose it any way!!
any usefull websites would be great
Cheers all

I'm a 'Pen' but I guess that doesn't really count.
the Mont Blanc Pens are extremely nice. It depends on what her preference would be. Have you asked her - does she really want a pen or would a nice piece of jewellry be more in keeping? You could get a nice bracelet for that money, if the gift is for keeping etc etc....
WHSmiths have a special counter for pens if you just want to start by looking.
Pen (not the ballpoint variety!)

For less than £100 I'd stick with Cross, and get a ball point, maybe a set with mechanical pencil and a nice case.
Avoid sterling silver - it'll tarnish and need polishing.
Do you want a pen to toss in her handbag..or a desk set?
Mont Blanc is a fine make, but I'm a snob and would only consider a fountain pen, and that becomes less practical - nice for a desk set, but not for carting around at the bottom of a bag/case.

Have a look there, give u some ideas!

Never seen the point in spending decent money on a ballpoint/roller ball. Fountain pen, yes, but ballpen no. IMHO it's like spending serious money on a quartz watch (I'd rather pay for the engineering involved in a mechanical movement).

106......get her a Cross rollerball
I've got about 5 decent pens and the one i use all the time is the Cross rollerball.Fountain pens are a bit old-fashioned and no good for forms with multiple copies.Ballpoints are scruffy,IMO.A rollerball is a good compromise;neat and practical.
Also Cross do the best refills, are well made and smooth to write with. The refills for Parkers are crap.
Should get a decent Cross rollerball for £40-£60.

Cheers for the replies!
Have thought about a fountain pen but as we both work in IT then there isn't too many letters to write(not by hand anyway!!) and I would rather she took it with her and used it.
I did consider jewellery but I can't afford to buy what I would really want to get her and as we have been together for ages now I have done all the usual gifts us unimaginative blokes get!!
The same really goes for a watch as I would really like to spend a bit more when I can afford it(we have just graduated!)
Anyway thanks again to you all

Get a MontBalnc Mozart ballpoint.
It's quite small, so fit's in wimmin's hands/handbags easily. Roughly £85, which is a lot for a pen to some people, but she will love it and it will last a lifetime, or until it gets lost...!
