Dropped Car Keys....Please Help!!

Just had a frantic boyfriend on the phone, he's dropped his car keys on the way to work and is now in a mess.
he's reported it to the police but they won't do anything bar ring him if they turn up.
He's frantic that someones going to nick the car, and he's now stuck in town 30 miles from home.
Can anyone suggest anything please?!?!
