The Last of the Few ....
The oldest surviving pilot from the Battle of Britain, who was shot down in his Spitfire and wounded in 1940, has died aged 99.
Flt Lt William Walker, born in Hampstead, north London, suffered a stroke last Thursday.
He died in hospital on Sunday, the Battle of Britain Memorial Trust said.
The Battle of Britain was the German air force's attempt to gain air superiority over the RAF from July to September 1940, early in World War II.
Their ultimate failure was one of the turning points of the war and prevented Germany from invading Britain.
I take my cap off to you, Sir ...... may your god go with you.
And thanks for your contribution in keeping this country free for all those who walk in your footsteps, although we walk in your shadow.

Full respect to him for all he did to help save this country all those years ago.
I was pretty annoyed when the BBC newsreader referred to him by his surname instead of taking the trouble to use his rank.

My Uncle was a a rear gunner on a Halifax in ww2 and was shot down over the sea of Omar laying mines, he was only 19 bless him when he died.
We never got his body back presumed at the bottom of the Sea but he does get a mention on the memorial at Rushy mead, what with the invention of the internet I now have a picture of the plane and crew that shot him down.
Bless you uncle Den gone but never forgotten!

Did anyone hear the guy on 3counties who was a WWII expert who had spoken to william Walker on several occations. Many times William said at the time being 18/19 they didn't really understand what impact they had on THE WORLD! but just knew they had a job to do and did it.
I hope in future wars there will be people like him to remember.

I am reading a book about what happened on Malta during WW2.
They had to do their best with the earliest mark of Hurricane against far more superior Me 109's and constant bombing attacks as well. The Navy did well also.
Must have been a terrifying time anyway. Such bravery!
