Adrian Newey OBE
Seeing as the Apple disciples have started a thread so they can nurse their collective semis over one of their idols being given an award in the New Year's honours list I thought it only fitting we should celebrate someone who is as equally worthy of an award.
F1 has long been heralded as the pinnacle of motorsport and right at the pinnacle of the pinnacle is Adrian Newey... a man widely regarded as the best in his field of F1 car design and who has developend champiosnhip winning cars for Williams, McLaren and now the all conquering Red Bull in a career spanning decades now.
The technical side of F1 is predominantly a British affair and although Adrian now works for Red Bull who are Austrian owned he (as is the team) is based in Britian at Milton Keynes and his previous employers (McLaren and Williams) were also Britsh based.
So here we have a man who has not only given a lot to the sport, but has done it in Britain using British talent and IMO he is well worthy of his OBE

Spot on about Newey. He is an outstanding designer. I could never understand why any team should let him go to another team. Williams are one team who made that stupid mistake. His cars have always been top performers.
Very pleased for him. he well deserves it.

Of course Adrians achievements have been very deservedly recognised, the Apple and F1 fan are both anoraks or geeks, the Apple products are used and enjoyed by a larger spectum of people worldwide.

I do have to say Newey does more for UK innovation and design, as F1 is still primarily a British based sport, so that the industry around it is also British. Something to be proud of (even if its not always the best to watch), in comparison to Ive who whilst penning some nice stuff has mainly served to make an American firm very rich.
Obviously if Apple were British, I wouldn't be saying the above and be commending them both very highly.

Edited to add that you are right about one thing...,the whole Apple thing is way out of proportion in here... that is why I posted this thread.
My thinking was simply that in the New Year's honour's list there was an OBE awarded to an designer/engineer who is a) unquestionably the very best at what he does in a field that attracts only the very best b) has been at the top for over two deciades and c) is British, but more importanntly has conducted his career in Britain using British expertise with British companies and yet he doesn't get a mention in NSR.... no instead we have some designer for Apple who has made millions for America and an American company.... and the fact that Newey didn't even get a mention whereas Ives did boils my p1ss!!!!! And breathe
