I got one of these too.
A couple of things to do:
1) Microsoft have released a PPC2002 service pack - well its not called that but essentially what it is.... havnt got the URL but have a look at the Compaq support site.
Follow the instuctions carefully or you may end of with a chunk of plastic and metal that does FA..
2) Next once thats done download the new version of ActiveSync 3.5 Build 12007. Mine was well out of date even with a new 3870.
Problems I had/have:
1) If put laptop into Standby (WinXP) sometimes the IPAQ locks up. You have to do a soft reset to make it power up. Its defiantly a lock up as the time freezes.
2) Battery - if it loses power its supposed to hold all data for 72hrs (acc to PPC 2002 standard) it dosesnt - bought a USB sync/charger from Dabs today.

Sounds too simple but my Usb connection didnt work with my iPAQ and somebody told me I had to connect the usb cable to the machine before connecting it to the Pc - amazingly it made the difference and it worked !
Only additional thing i can suggest.

I have had one of these for about a week and although it is potentialy a superb machine, I have been plagued by crashes at least once a day and the active synch never works for more than a couple of synchs before going out to lunch. Also soft reset seems to randomly decide to hard reset which isn't helpful, given all the crashing.
The current problem is active synch wont connect and recognise the ipaq despite usb available etc, i tried reinstalling it to no avail and all the mictrosoft site support strategies too. Just get the "connecting" message constantly with no progress from there. I have removed the device from the software so as to re -pair it but I cant even get it to do that.
I am starting to get seriously pissed off with it and wish i d stuck to a diary! i m not an IT professional so maybe I ve missed something basic, but nevertheless the ovetwhelming impression is that this machine tries to run befoore it walks properley and keeps on falling over...
any helpful sugestions much appreciated
