i dont know mybe they do this in all supermarkets , not in Sainsburys , which is the other one i go to .
Arrived at just the right time , by accident , for the guy tagging reductions on the steak , theres a bustle of women surrounding him so i wait and go off to pick up bread , wonder back and i realise the technique is to pick the item ( before the opposition can) and wait for him/his machine to come up with the new price
I got 2/3 off my ribeye but i coulda had 4 pieces the same
Is it bad etiquette to barge the ladies out the way ( the same way they do you ) ?

If you don't get the steak you want then follow the OP around the shop until you get the opportunity to transfer the item from their trolley into yours.

Supermarket Steak is generally horrible as has been said, you look forward to it and then its an anti climax, tough, chewy and doesnt taste very nice, occasionally you might get soem that is ok but rarely. Steak I get from the Supermarket gets boiled mercilessly for hours in a casserole before I will go near it.

I used to look down on the people grabbing the bargains when I worked in ASDA, I was only 19 but still ..
Now you see them and think, jesus they have to be that aggressive to get the food they want for their families .. it makes you realise both how lucky you are and how messed up our country is ..

The local butcher v. supermarket meat is a myth, simple.
BOTH get their meat from the SAME place. Trust me, I KNOW this to be a fact
The local butcher is more likely to have the specialist cuts you want, or to have time to muck about for you.
Supermarket will have the price you like. But modernised ones ALSO have many of the cuts plus a fully trained butcher.......

My local butchers was featured on Channel 4's Dispatches program about the difference between locally sourced produce and supermarket imported meat. All their stuff comes from The Three Dales.

When I buy my beef off my local butcher it is a really dark colour. In the supermarket it is bright red. He said they add colouring to make the meat redder to tempt the buyer as they think the redder the better.
I've had supermarket meat in the past and it is $hite compared to my local butcher.

Pumped full of water, proteins, colourings and preservatives to increase weight, shelf life and image. Sorry, but I prefer to see my butcher carve it straight from a carcass that was delivered just that morning. When I fry off supermarket mince the pan half fills with water, yet the stuff made in the mincing machine at Eshelby's leaves a virtually dry pan every time. And supermarket chicken breasts seem to contain more liquid than Jordan's breasts !
I also get my veg from a local farm shop too. A cauli bigger than your head for 50p, compared to Asda ones smaller than your fist for 98p
