07049 call scam
got a call on my land line today from a woman "hello, hello, hello o for gods sake" the line sounded bad and she could not hear what i said.
done a 1471 and got 07049 286183 number which i was about to call back on my mobile but my better judgement got the better of me, looked it up on the internet and it automatically charges 50p connection fee and no doubt a heavy £/min fee
cheeky basturds, it is run by a company called 2communications who give a proportion of the money to ofcom which is why they are not on the ofcom list of scammers
beware of these and dont call them back

I never ring numbers I don't know
Like Dave said, if they really want to speak to you, they'll ring you back
Actually, thinking about it, I very rarely ring people back when I do know who they are

Because they obviously make the call sound like it's something important, the line's bad, you're curious what it was about, whether it might have been urgent, you check 1471, you get their number, you ring them, you rack up a big bill unwittingly.

All 070 numbers are considered premium rate. Many people rack up bills because they think anything beginning 07 is a mobile and hence included in their bundled minutes etc.
070 was a 'follow-me' service released by BT - you'd be assigned a number, and you could divert that to any landline/mobile you liked without needing BT's help. It was free to have, but BT reaped profit from the callers.
Old article, but you get the idea

If anyone Ever rings my house phone they ALWAYS get the answerphone. When I'm home I'm normally sat down and the phone is more then an arm lengths away.
I never get up to get it and if someone wants me they can call me on the mobile.. Everyone I know knows I don't do the housephone.
thanks for the tip though.

You sound like me
The only person that still rings me on the house phone is my mother, because it costs her too much to ring my mobile apparently
Yet she doesn't have a problem sending picture messages to my sister
