Default Bent finger/s

Anyone here have or had a bent finger or two - you know ones a bit crooked that won't straighten out when you open up your hand fully?

Does it or did it bother you and do you know if they can be fixed?

had a mate that worked in IT, he had it on his pinky, they gave him some sort of spring loaded clip to put on his finger, 6 months and his finger was straight again, but he got a gay repetitive strain injury (RSI) in his finger and got a pay out for it too.

spineless country !

hope its not causing you pain mate.

You mean dupuytren's disease? Small crystals forming around the tendons causing them to contract? My Dad had this and had an op to remove the crystals around the particular tendons. It did make a small improvement, but 10 years down the line, he could really do with having it done again.
But since having 2 strokes and losing his ability to speak properly, it isn't really high up on his list of priorities if you know what I mean.

Interesting, thanks.

It's actually a female family member but no pain involved.

I assuume the clip was just for work and didn't result in any permanent straightening? I was kind of thinking that surgical work on a tendon would be involved and perhaps not offered by NHS.

Surgery for things like Dupuytren's contrature is available on the NHS.......if you are thinking about it get your GP to refer you to the local hand specialist and not a general surgeon

I've never heard of Dupuytren's disease but will look it up. This person was born with this so not something that has developed or got worse over the years. d

If it's a congenital thing and the hand is functional then risk / benefit of surgery will not be clear. If something goes wrong (nerves cut, pain, post op infection etc) then you could argue surgery would have made it worse...

You need to speak to a bone-fide hand surgeon (yes they do exist, don't be fobbed off)

Shaun

PS We all had to learn about Dupuytrens contracture, worst part is the guys name (Mr Dupuytren) we we all had to learn off by heart.

I've got trigger thumb at the moment. Wake up in the morning, and have to pop it straight again. Not painful, apart from if I press the nodule at the base of my thumb.

"Nuttin to do with her genitals I can assure you Sor"

I agree with you about the mild surgical risks and it's no big deal. It's just that it was mentioned recently and I promided to ask.

Cheers folks. d

Edit to say that my Mrs says Mrs Thatcher had this condition so perhaps something to do with waving handbags about

I have a crooked little finger - I broke it when I was a kid though, so presumably it never was set properly straight by the doc

The finger next to my pinky is now as bent as George Michael after I broke it in four places, Although it's a bit of a weird shape it still functions ok.

The little finger on my right hand is slightly bent, I can't straighten it. Apparently its to do with the tendons on the underside of the finger being too short, but its never caused me any hassle and is apparently quite common??

That made me wince!!

The pinky on left hand is bent. Had it broken by an old lady in our local waitrose. I had my hand on the freezer, and she crushed it with her trolley. I think I was 12 at the time.

Mrs Leslie has a bent top joint in one index finger. Can't remember what caused it now, but she has adapted to the problem and it does not handicap her now.
