Question Plasma TV question...

In the manual for my Panasonic plasma it states there should be at least a 7cm gap between it and anything the back of it is placed against.

All well and good but what if you wall mount it? Surely the gap from TV to wall would be much less than that & I'm not sure I'd want it sticking out that far?

Any thoughts?

It has at least four fans in the back of the thing anyway and acts like a giant radiator when it's on

Ive had my panasonic 42pz85 mounted directly to the wall, with around 3-4cm clearance, and i had no problems at all. My pioneers mounted just as close and again, no problems after over two years on the wall I just make sure its Dusted regularly.

I think manufacturers just air on the side of caution, ive seen some rediculous sized gaps that they have recommended in the past. As long as your sensible and give it some ventillation space it should be fine.

Like anything poor ventilation will do it no good, and with being a plasma the heat it kicks out is ridiculous. I would go by their guidelines.

If it was a led or LCD wouldn't be much of a problem

i think its also to do with cutting down on noise as some plasmas can buzz really loudly and if its up against a wall it just amplifys it. ive got a "50 plasma and it doesnt make a sound but if ur unlucky u might get a noisy one.

I'd use the official Panasonic wall mount were it not £300 or some similarly ridiculous amount, bet that doesn't give their stated clearance either

The set it not particularly buzzy, just a gentle hum when it's on.

Will probably just go for it but may choose a tilting mount as it will be a bit deeper even though I don't want to tilt it.
