Pointing....

Pointing....
We are currently purchasing a new house and opted for the most expensive survey.
There was nothing on the survey to say it's not safe & sound but had a few things as 'advisories'
The patio slabs being uneven I'm not bothered about or the holes in the internal Walls where the stair lift was mounted but was wondering about the pointing on the roof.
We don't mind paying for the repairs and I just want to know how much it costs to repoint the top of a roof?
Thanks

Im guessing that by "pointing" the surveyor would be referring to the parapet walls, assuming your house is terraced "or" has brick parapets on both sides.
Brick parapets to terraced houses are usuanlly only 3-400mm high so there should not be that much to do.
Pointing rate to brickwork is £20-25m2 on larger areas.
However again I assume you will need an access tower to access it safely, Id expect a bricklayer and mate to do an average terraced house parpaets both sides in a day - so Id allow your self £500 with tower hire (hire usually "£65 a day or £125 a week for a 6x2 tower with a 6-7m working platform.
Im a QS for a contractor btw so do this all day long

Not a lot in reality.
Will depend whether you need scaffolding or your roofer is happy to do without, although these days he shouldn't especially at the gable ends if detached.
I presume you mean re-pointing of he ridge tiles, if so rough guess is £500 for scaffold, max 2 days labour for 1 bloke and labourer so something like £500-£700 max if you just use a tower.
More info on work required would help.

Sorry it's a detached house in Milton Keynes and it's the roof tiles.
Here is exactly what the report says:
the roof is pitched and covered with inter locking concrete tiles. These are in satisfactory order.
The tiles are secure but some of the bedding mortar is deteriorating and repointing will be a future maintenance liability. The edge is satisfactory...
Remedial repairs: driveway and uneven slabs & front gutter
Updating: bathroom, doors, internal joinery, boundry fences
Predictable failure repair: mortar pointing to ridge tiles, Tarmac drive
Minor maintenance: tear to under felt, condensation stains in bathroom, damage to plaster, rear garage wall.
I'm considering getting the minor felt tear & gutters done when the pointing is being done to save costs...
