Belfast charges are a joke, as are the corrupt traffic wardens that inforce the charges.
CastleCourt and Victoria Square should be offering free parking to stimulate interest as they are borh going to the wall.

Down here in sunny Cornwall they've doubled the cost of parking in some places (after a "consultation") and seen revenue increase by about 25% ....
There was one car park highlighted a couple of weeks ago that had increased it's charges and now had no customers at all. Admittedly it was not used much anyway but it was actually used previously. A 'little' is obviously more than 'b*g all' ... but it seems the council are unaware of this fact.
I don't understand where these idiots are coming from? I mean, the more difficult you make it for people to shop in town centres the more likely those businesses fold, thus no business rates, thus empty buildings in town centres thus people less likely to visit, etc etc. But no, they go for the short term revenue to keep feathering their own nests. Oh wait, the light dawns .....

Here in London they are doing away with meters and pay and display ticket machines so you now have to pay by phone only. The problem with this is you have to pay the normal extortionate parking fee, an additional telephone booking fee together with the cost of your phone call.
At the end of the day the local authorities must be saving shed loads of money by introducing pay by phone parking (no machines to service, maintain or collect money from) but charging us even more. MAKES MY BLOOD BOIL

Yep, death knell for the town centre but I hate shopping and if I really do have to go intot he town centre I can walk or use my bike, a car is a pain in the **** as the place is rammed with Range Rovers all jockeying for a space.

If the car park is private just don't pay ... they may fine you then chase for it BUT it will come to nothing. Just avoid the Local Authority parking areas as they have the Law on their side Use your initiative people, always possible to park somewhere for free.

i beleive some councils, Bedford being one, are making free parking available again -- to attract shoppers into the town centres
utimately it will follow the money - if no one can park, shops will close and councils will loose revenue from business rates
so they will either have make parking more attractive or give aother alternative like park and ride -- Cambridge has a very good park and ride system
