RED LIGHT 'CAMERAS'...???
Do traffic lights HAVE to have the small yellow cameras on top to be able to snap you and convict you, if you accidentally - or on purpose, if that's your bag! - go through a red (after a certain timed period, of course).
Or are they now fitted with some other covert device that records the offence, that you otherwise cannot see/make out on the traffic light/mounting pole?
Just want to be clear on the current 'state of the art ' red light technology/legalities, that's all...

I haven't got done recently.
But did get done this time last year - I accidentally went through a red, according to the NIP, 2.xxx secs after it had changed.
But this is the reason why I ask about cameras: as that set I got 'done' on, didn't appear to have ANY type of external camera on them - let alone an obvious bright yellow mini Gatso! Not even the small grey/black 'traffic flow observation' ones were present!
Are they now fitted with some kind of covert stealth micro camera/recording equipment or something?! I'm confused.

But, as said, this set didn't have ANY kind of visible camera (rectangular box/s) on the pole - or behind them on a seperate pole!
For all intents and purposes, they looked just like a regular set of traffic lights.

They are 'on' a roundabout. I go through these lights to and from work, 10 times a week. So unless I'm being an ultra thicko, then I can't see nowt! lol

Rather than a camera on top of the lights I think it is a camera mounted on a pole before you get to the lights and it takes a picture from your rear. The ones I have seen around here are light yellow.
I understand that they are triggered by sensors under the road at the white line and if you even creep over the line and stop while the lights are red, if you activate the sensors it will take a picture and you will get done!
I believe the ANPR spy cameras are painted blue, don't know about cctv ones though.

Well, not sure if I actually ran a red light TBH - it could well have been green!!, anyway
But there were significant mitigating circumstances - which I won't go into.
But, as you say, even if it was a red, the fact that there appeared to be NO cameras, will be the reason why I... er... haven't received a NIP, regardless!

Amber does indeed mean stop.
As for the "time" limit from amber to red and camera arming round here its 1 second after red in a 30 limit. So, you have a fair bit of grace given that amber will also be on for a minimum of 1 second also.
